So I went out to my car this morning and all of the windows and the sunroof were open

Has this happened to anyone else here? Any idea what could have caused it?

Did someone by accident pressed and held the unlock button on the key fob?

Hmm, that sounds likely... I had the key in my pocket for a while, and on a few occasions the has trunk opened itself, which I suspect was caused by something pressing on the button in my pocket.

Makes sense now. Can't find any other reason for that to happen. Easy fix 🙂

Ive seen this on every BMW forum since the mid 1990s when BMW designed the remote fobs with convenience close. If you have the remote in your pocket and the button gets pressed in held long enough, and you’re close enough to the car, it will lower the windows and open the sunroof.

Check your owners manual to see the info on convenience open.

Get a key cover. Honestly helped stopped accidental presses for me. Accidentally pressed the panic button while driving once. Didn't know your BMW can go in panic mode while driving lol (will just have the alarm sound while you're driving around).

I once pocket rolled my Maxima windows halfway down at night during a rain/sleet storm. I was extremely pissed at 6am the next morning. A miserable ride to work.
A cover is a good thing!

I had a similar problem with my 2010 E60 535xi before I replaced it with my G30 in 2019. I park the BMW(s) under a lift when the Corvette is up. On occasion I would inadvertently press the 535's trunk button while the key fob was in my pocket. Those who have had an E60 may remember that when the trunk button was pressed, the trunk lid flies up at surprising speed to fully open. When I was selling BMWs, at delivery I used to warn customers not to lean over the trunk lid when opening it. As you can surmise, the trunk lid would hit the lift--hard--and I would get a dent in the top edge of the trunk. I took it to my friendly paintless dent guy and he was scratching his head as to how I could have gotten the dents. When I told him he understood, but also said getting the dents out on the very top edge of the trunk lip would be tough. He got them about 90% out. Although somewhat too-little-too-late, I ended up gluing some 1/4" thick rubber to the underside of the lift where it hit. Fortunately the G30 trunk doesn't fly up when opened. --Bob
