Current September 5 Series Purchase/Lease Deals

I am curious as to what others, who have either purchased or leased a new 5 series, are seeing for negotiated pricing in Sept. 2021 only.

I realize we are in strange times in the auto industry and that purchases made earlier this year and in 2020 are most likely very different than what is happening today.

I have a very low mileage 2020 Range Rover which I leased 23 months ago. I am not in the market to give it up yet, but my dealer has been aggressively trying to buy my vehicle. They offered me the high-end trade-in value from Black Book. This is several thousand dollars more than the negotiated price on my contract. I have 13 months left on the lease and I do not see the auto industry inventory improving any time soon. It is very possible that finding a replacement vehicle late next year may be even tougher and more expensive based on what I am hearing.

I am seriously thinking about taking the dealer’s offer and ordering a 2022 BMW M550i.

I live in the San Francisco Bay area and inventories are bleak. Demand here is far greater than inventory for almost all brands. I have visited 3 BMW dealerships. Two offered me MSRP and one offered $10K over MSRP. None of them can give me a delivery date estimate yet.

I have seen people state they received anywhere from 6 – 12.8% off MSRP on deals from 2020 up until about May of 2021. This moment in time seems to have the dealers really panicked and they are trying to squeeze everything they can out of the scarce inventory they can acquire. The demand is high as witnessed by the numbers of people I have seen at the various dealerships I have visited. Maybe this is like the “great toilet paper” panic of 2020. I have never purchased or leased at MSRP, but the reality now is that it might be a really great deal today and through at least next year.

Anyone have any very recent deals/experience to share?

We ordered a loaded 2022 540i in late August and got the standard ~10% off dealer list when we ordered. I only wish I had offered less as they accepted right away.

I picked up a very nicely equipped 1 owner, 2020 M550 with 10k miles, including an extra set of winter wheels/tires for $67k on Sept 1st.
If you're looking to buy, there are deals out there. This was through a dealership. It was actually the dealership owners personal car.
Still has over 2 yrs left on factory warranty, so no worries for me.

Search Autotrader, cars.com nationwide perhaps ?

Where are you located? In your garage is of little help.

Dealers in NY are selling at full MSRP.

Ordered a 2022 M550 on may 29th and ended up getting a tad over 10% off sticker with loyalty and other discounts included. Initially tried for a 21 model but all allocations were gone.

My CA contacted me a few weeks later indicating that due to current supply and demand issues, the dealer was selling at window sticker only from this point forward.

Car was delivered second week of August.

for california, almost all the dealers are starting to go over msrp on anything nice right now. the fact is just that starting late july early Aug the dealerships started getting informed by BMWNA that shortage will start and expected to last at least 6-8 months, so if you didn't order a car or picked up a car by then, chances are you are not going to get a deal anywhere in CA right now.

here is a spreadsheet by one of the local broker in SoCal https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...6ZTBfA8I#gid=0

i used their deal back in Feb-March for my '21 540i and i'm paying $645 w/ tax included on 12k miles lease. now, even a 530i m sport cost more than what i'm paying with only 7.5k lease.

Thanks for the responses!

I’m waiting on a build date and hoping to get all the options I want. After shopping around, I never thought achieving a deal at MSRP would be the best price on a new BMW in northern California. Being a loyal customer to the dealership group helped, otherwise a $10k+ markup.

With the push towards electric, I just realized I might be getting one of the last V8’s to ever be sold in the US. Mercedes is shelving almost all V8’s for the US market in 2022. It will be interesting if they ever bring them back.

I read the first part of your post and immediately got angry because my dealer told me what you said in your second part when I was ordering. And this was a dealer that we bought an E60 and F01 Alpina B7 from and got all servicing done through them and they still didn't give a discount for loyalty.

But I was told the same thing. Sticker price due to high demand. It still feels a bit "off" that there wasn't room to budge even a bit but I'm not master negotiator. Some got 5% off and that's a decent chunk for an $80K+ car, but nothing for me to get butthurt over. I was given an immediate allocation from this dealer whereas other local dealers were telling me late-September, best case. I ended up receiving it within 6.5 weeks from order in July.

Welcome. I'll add, we had $0 in credits, loyalty or otherwise.
