Make sure you really mash the brake also, I wasn’t doing it hard enough the first time I tried it. If it’s lurching you aren’t braking hard enough. Oh and it’s freaking awesome and well worth trying.

Also, make sure you give it at least 2-3 seconds after mashing the gas pedal. I was originally letting the brake off too soon, before the turbo's had a chance to fully spin up.
0-60 in 3.5 seconds (even with 4 wheel spin). Hoping for 3.4 soon. |

Wondering same thing because LC when used isn't like dumping the clutch from 3k. As it sits there at 3k rpm in launch control the rear of car is squatting down and there is definitely massive friction going on with the clutches/drivetrain. I kinda wish is was like LC in my M5 where you can tell it's in neutral and when you release it "drops the clutch"

For non m cars you need to keep one foot really strong on brake and really mash the accelerator down to the floor otherwise it won't activate. It's really easy in an M, hard in all others. The kick down you will feel is just a small metal button behind the pedal to give you feedback. Give that a shot. |

With my X3 M40i, I was able to put down faster times with Launch Control by turning DSC fully off! 0-60 in 3.9 versus 4.5 with DTC. In my owners manual, there was even a note saying professional drivers can achieve faster times with DSC completely turned off. Not sure if this is applicable to the M550i, but thought I'd share. Haven't tested it out in my new 750i yet.

Yeah turning DSC off is one of the requirements to activate launch control in the m550i, won’t work with it on. That’s impressive for a x3 m40i though!

There's a difference. The manual suggests pressing the button once which displays "TRACTION" on the dash. However, if you hold down the DSC button for 5 seconds, it turns DSC fully off. I'm saying - try the same procedure but turn DSC fully off.

I think the consensus is that LC is available from the start, but it’s suggested that you wait until after the run-in period to use it. The manual suggests that at least. Took me a couple of tries to get it to work the first time.

so with DSC not fully disable, the transmission does something on the 1 and 2 gear upshifts that feels like the car is being pulled back - this one user improved his trap speed by 2 mph from 115 to 117 on a stock M550i by completing turning off DSC by holding it for 5 seconds.
the only issue with this is you don't get the flag saying launch control is active. |
