Although the base car has plenty of power, the Dinan helps wring out the power left untapped by the cars conservative production tune. It is not about rev limiters or top speed, as the tuning adds most of it's effect at the usable low end. In fact, the original test units were 600 HP and retuned to place more at the lower band due to press feedback. Is the car a beast without it? Sure. But, the snarl and smooth delivery of the added torque that is enabled by the Dinan is addictive.

I have had zero issues with my unit and feel safe with my dealer who has a log history with Dinan.
It's just too bad they don't have the stage one's anymore. And the new ones seem to have a lot of problems. If I end up with one of these, it's going to be purchased and installed by a certified BMW dealership to avoid any future warranty issues.

Thank you for elaborating on the product and your experience with it.
Try to find a Stage 1 online. There is still vendors on these forums selling them.

As long as you have it installed by a Dinan dealer you will be good warranty wise 👍🏻

My preference would be to buy it and have it installed by BMW.

I also race BMW motorcycles and have run into issues with 3rd party fuel management systems. In my experience, if they sold and installed it, they have no one else to blame even if there is a factory warranty from the manufacturer.

Trust me, I've been down this road before. When I had problems with a fuel computer that I bought from BMW of Austin (motorcycle), they played the blame game with me until I kindly reminded them that they sold and installed it. They quickly changed their tune (no pun intended).

Thank you. I do know they're still available online, I just don't think any BMW dealerships in Houston have them any longer. I want to buy and have it installed by the same dealership.

I know I'm being overly picky, but like I said... this has bitten me before with performance parts and BMW's factory warranty.

dealers here in california won't install a tune that is not purchased through them, especially now since the dinan rep told my dealer the stage 1 tune gave problems, so the dealer does not want anythinggggg to do with the stage 1 tune now.

While I don't doubt your experience at your dealer, I find to hard to believe all BMW dealers in CA won't install Dinan. Is this a California issue with some kind of state approvals? No problems on the east coast from what I have seen.

I bought mine online and my dealer in San Francisco installed it no problem.

BMW of Silver Spring. Was one of the service tech managers who has worked with Dinan for years.

Have been traveling for a bit and the V2 was delivered while I was gone. Installed it this morning.

-Definitely feel the tune over stock [drove it stock for a week]
-No zip ties included for the metal base plate, unlike with the V1, but seems irrelevant.. because..
-Cables are MUCH shorter than the V1. It simply does not reach the driver side accessory box location (not in a functional manner anyways)
-It MAY reach the aux battery location on the passenger side slightly better, but as the installation instructions say to avoid wet areas, that location is a no-go; it's nearly open to the environment.
-Had to shimmy it between the core DME connectors next to the driver side strut
-Easier install, because it's only two connections -- like the Sport unit. No power/ground required
-Happy it has a bypass connector, effectively removing the tune within a few seconds
-I assume there is no app to support the product at this point. The Sport version lets you change boost modes; the V1 let you turn it on or off. The V2 seems to rely on good old fashioned hardware only, i.e., if you want it off, use the bypass

Will see how it goes over the next few days.

I would really like to find an AWD dyno in the Houston area before purchasing one of these things.

And if you find one, are you trying to find what your base car is? How does that effect your potential purchase?

Of course, was just confused by the find a shop and then purchasing the unit.
