Awaiting Carrier Assignment Purgatory

My car was built on September 28, 2022 and has been sitting in Awaiting Carrier Assignment in Dingolfing ever since.

If you've ordered and received a car this year, how long did you have to wait for carrier assignment. I'm getting a little antsy knowing it's been sitting there for 3 weeks doing nothing.

That seems like a really long time if they're continuing to build cars. Does your dealer get any additional info from their end? Mine just entered Awaiting Carrier Assignment today.

My carrier assignment this spring for our G30 took over a month. Then everything after that happened rather quickly.

I've called the Genius line a couple of times. I get different info depending on who picks up. Today the lady said she'd be surprised if it wasn't assigned a carrier by the end of this week, then she went on to say when it gets to port, it could sit for another month before it's in transit. I'll be p***ed if that's the case. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of options for 530es right now, so I've just gotta suck it up.

That's interesting. I'm hopeful if I wait a long time at the factory, it'll be a short wait at the port. Thank you

That's encouraging. Another user had a short wait for a carrier assignment and a long wait at the port. I'm hoping I don't have a long wait at both places. I'd hoped to get it by mid-November.

Have you tried hitting up your dealer? They might be able to work it up the chain and see if they can get to the bottom of the hold up. It doesn't sound normal for it to be sitting there for weeks. Mine was in that status for just a day.

What's the priority code of the order? Mine was set to "1 - Customer Sold". I'm thinking if it's on a different priority code, it could end up sitting and waiting for higher priority cars to get shipped first? Definitely suggest reaching out to the dealer.

All in was closer to five months end-to-end for me. That started when I told the dealer to place the order, and ended when they told me the car had arrived and was ready for me to pick up.

I also agree that your dealer probably has better information on the progress of your build. Sometimes my dealer contradicted what the web site was saying, but in the end, the dealer was more accurate for me.

Update

I called my dealer who in turn emailed the port in Germany. Apparently if there are parts that are easy to put on after the fact, BMW will build the car and circle back to put the missing part on at the port prior to ship ing from Germany.

My car falls into this bucket. He said the longest he's seen a car sit for this issue is 2 months, so hopefully the missing part will be thrown on soon so the car can ship.

DAMN!!! that sucks bro. Hopefully they get that part soon so they could slap it on and put it on a boat to cross the pond.

Ok, that makes sense. At least some idea of why it's been sitting there. Did they say what they were waiting on?

The shipping manager said my car fell into the missing part bucket, but couldn't determine what the exact issue was. He said he would see what he could do to expedite and prioritize it.

The sales manager said typically it's due to a missing screen for iDrive. Hopefully I hear back in a day or so. I really DGAF what the issue is. I just want it moving. 🤣😂

Try entering your VIN at this site to possibly see the status of why your car is not moving.

https://bmw-recall-tool.netlify.app

My car was built Nov. 2021, fast tracked all the way to Port Hueneme CA and then sat at the port for 5 weeks waiting for a receiver audio module.

Your dealer should know the exact status of why your car is delayed by logging into the BMW order system, mine did and kept me informed all the way to delivery.

That's a cool tool. Nothing comes up for my VIN. I expect to hear from the dealer re: additional color tomorrow.
