I ordered my 23 M550i in mid June, and picked it up a week ago last Wednesday. This was a Left coast ship route through the Panama Canal. The worst was towards the end when the ship sat at anchor off the coast of Oxnard for three days. Clearing customs and the VPC was quick, but trying to get it assigned to a car carrier took four days, plus a week in transit to my dealer in Phoenix. It was worth the wait!

I saw your post in the other thread. I'd check with the dealer if they actually had an allocation they could assign to you before they took your order. While I was shopping, some dealers were talking about a waitlist to get on an allocation, some with 5 months delay just get an available allocation assigned to them.

So I pressed my dealer about this (and called the 4 other BMW dealerships in the area). My dealership said they do have an allocation, but that BMW factories don't pick up the order / allocation right away. They assured me I'm next in line to be picked up but that they don't have any idea when it will be picked up by a factory.

All the dealerships I called within 2-3 hours of me said they could put me on a waitlist, so no reason to jump ship from this dealership. The wait is truly killing me though.

Uh don't tell me that. I've on week 4 and still no production number .

Ok, so today out of desperation I called 6 more dealerships a little farther from me and found one with two allocations. I probably asked the guys like 5 times you have a real allocations? Like one with a production number? So I put a deposit down with him and have a production number!!!

So morale of the story is if they say they have an allocation but can't give you a production number they don't really, you're on a waitlist. Now I can wait for real this time .

Also they required a much bigger deposit which isn't great but at least the car is coming now .

Regarding those that have ordered and have waited weeks or months without a build#...That means your dealership does not have an allocation. If they have an allocation, your build# will be provided right away.

The same thing happened to me which is explained at the beginning of this thread. I waited a month for a build# and status until the dealer finally told me they were awaiting an allocation...I immediately cancelled with them and found a dealer with a build that was almost identical to my build just white instead of blue.

I'll be picking up my 2023 M550i this Thursday.

That sounds like a long winded way to avoid saying they have a waitlist. If the allocation exists, they just edit the allocation with your order and put your name on it. This gives them the production number. For me once the dealer had the allocation confirmed, he just configured it with my options and got the production number right away. I was on the phone when we were verifying the config he was putting into the system.

It was early Sept when another dealer I was talking to said I could have the allocation once BMW released them right around first week of the month. But then he said they didn't give them an M550i allocation so I'd have to wait another month. He also said if I put a deposit down, it would help get BMW assign them an allocation for this car. Dunno, that last part sounded like trying to just get me to leave them a deposit.

I'm sure it's tougher with the limited dealer options out there, we have quite a few of them here we can hit up and shop around. Best of luck!

They look good in person, but these will be my winter wheels. I have some HRE 20" staggered FF10s is satin black sitting in my warehouse for next spring.

BMW really nickel and dimes you on the little add-ons. This car should’ve come with some cool puddle lights but you need to spend more money. Installed these this afternoon.
