looking forward to your video review of it rodi.

eoshd pretty much ripped Canon a new one with their recent video-only review.

Just a quick simple breakdown of the camera by DPRevew, not really a review of the camera yet.

The camera is also now listed for Canadians at $3699.99. The extra .99 cents is the real insult.

The full review should show up any day now.

looks promising, was interesting to say it was basically a full frame 7D with components of the 1DX trickled down rather then just being a 5DmkIII

EXCEPT the pixel density is hugely different between those three cameras. They've converged around AF features, but the differences in sensors and applications has become more defined.
7D is for nature
1D X is for sports
5D3 is for everything else

why can't the 5D3 be for sports as well? Is it just the higher frame-rate on the 1D X that makes you say that?

Yes, I'm hoping that the 7D MkII retains the industry leading pixel density (tighter than the D800) and combines that with the new Digic 5 processing and the latest digital lens technology, adds the full 1D X AF system, to gain us a stop or two of dynamic range without sacrificing detail resolution.

The only thing missing would be AF at f/8. If the 7D2 gained that, it'd be absolutely the best wildlife camera available.

I will serve that purpose well, but the 1D X will be one or two stops better for high ISO indoors. I think the 5D3 is a better all round camera.

True, but most sporting events are outdoors in natural lighting conditions, or indoors with tons of artificial lighting.

but with the mirror lock up and LCD shooting mode, I believe the 1DX is capable of 14fps which is more then double.

that's a lot of frames and with higher ISO capability, that camera would probably shoot razor sharp 6400ISO images without batting an eyelash where the 5D3 will probably be using most of it's buffer.

The auto focus in the 1DX is supposed to be a marginally more capable to, yes they are basically the same, but I think the metering system is different? I forget what part is different, but that rings a bell.

It's built for speed, and sports are fast (even a golf swing)

I think the 5D3 would do an admirable job, but having used the 7D to shoot sports a few times, it's hard to beat the speed and sharpness of a shutter and sensor that are designed for sports/wildlife.

The 5D2 is an awesome walk around.

12-fps in ANY light. Touche'

The 5D3 will be an awsome sports camera, as is the 7D, but if I made my living shooting the olympics or professional sports, I'd own the 1D X.

I expected a rise in 5D MkII and 7D sales, but it's a major feeding frenzy over on POTN. 5D classics, MkII's, and 7D's for sale in unreal numbers. I'm sort of amazed that so many people are willing to sell the camera they know for one that hasn't even had a full review done yet. The 5D MkII's still seem to be fetching decent prices. Most are above $1600 with a lot of use and closer to $1800 with low shutter counts.

The 5Dc bodies are still running $700-$900. I was hoping they'd come down a bit more.

I've heard that some people prefur the colours that are produced on the 5D more then the 5DmkII. I know one person who still shoots his original 5D and never considered switching to the mkII. And he works in a photography shop, so he got great deals.

So can't say I'm surprised the originals are still fetching 7-900$

still more then I'd pay for one that old though...

Lots of 24-105 kit lenses showing up, too. Good time to grab one of those.

I dont really do a good review, but I have my 5D3 for a couple days now and loves it. i never owned a FF, so I cant really compare on how it performs vs the 5D2 or others.

I also own a 7D right now. I can tell you one thing in my early testing on taking some sports photo. (track n field). The AF tracking works just as well as my 7D in my opinion, using the same 70-200 f4 IS lens.

I think this 5D3 will go down as one of the most solidly built Canon FF!
