Finished the car and I went to put stuff back into a small closet that shares space with the sump and ejector pump. Ejector pump failed on, blew the breaker and made a decent size mess. Thankfully it’s mostly ground water that needs to be cleaned up. Im sizing up the job tonight to buy new pump and ancillary stuff. Super brief but hydro was great to work with and shows even better. It’s a must if you have no ceramic coating and works great even if you have it. Added slickness for sure with a bit more gloss. It’ll be in the quarterly maintence schedule for sure. I’ll
Give more details if I make it out alive
tomorrow.

Yeah, I wasn't going for "perfectly clean" with that method. Just to wash away contaminants and keep the ceramic somewhat clean so nothing settles in to it.

Yup, premium gas... that's Chicago for ya. $70 for a full tank.

Cheapest priced premium gas by my Job.

For those of you that use a leather brush and a boar hair detailing brush, when you're done using it, how do you store it? I usually wash it with dish soap, let it dry, and then put it back in the MF box with all the other tools. But I've heard some detailers say that they have a bucket with APC and they put their detailing brushes, wheel woolies, etc., in the APC solution and water and just pick it out when they have to use it next time.

I feel like that's just marinating your brushes in contaminated water?

I want to be able to give my car a bath at work!! Looks really good.

It's been almost two months since I drove the M550. Probably three more months to go. It's a wintery mess here. I'm also toying strongly with the idea of keeping the M550 for-evah (that's my Boston accent) because of the last V8 thing, so keeping the miles off supports that.

I've been driving the QX60 M-F since I got the X5 right after Christmas. Driving the X5 on the weekends. Boy am I looking forward to how the M550 is going to feel that first time out after driving this top heavy mini-van with four doors all winter and early spring. I am also curious how the B&W is going to sound to my ears. The Bose system in the QX60 is no slouch, but it is 7 years old. The Bose system in the QX60 is very powerful. Really strong bass and subwoofer in the rear. But I can tell, B&W in the M550 is cleaner.

I’d love to hear others’ methods on this, also. I rinse them but then just store on a shelf or in a bucket in the garage. All my MF towels and mitts have their own respective boxes, organized by purpose (interior/exterior/leather/door jambs/etc) and some further protected inside a plastic bag within the box.

I just rinse my brushes off with hot water and let them air dry. For MF towels, I wash them with Rags to Riches, air dry and store them by color. Each color has a unique use. I have five colors.

I've been curious about Rags to Riches or just any other, dedicated detergent just for washing MFs. I am still trying to figure out the right amount to put in my washer since I wash all MFs together, including my drying Gauntlets. I don't really use MFs on the exterior so I'm not worried about road dirt getting introduced in to the interior MFs.

But one thing I've noticed is if there is some residual detergent on the towels, especially the Gauntlet, drying sucks hard. It makes sense why and I put these through a full cycle and not a quick cycle, so I need to figure out the right amount of detergent to use for the amount of towels I'm washing at once.

I use Persil since it smells nice but I'm thinking about just soaking all MFs in a bucket first with some detergent and then running a cycle with no detergent so that the whole cycle is just washing the detergent out.

I wash all mine together (interior, leather, gauntlet, and mitts). The only two I pull out are the towels I use on doorjambs since they actually get grime on them.

I use Tide free and gentle - no scent or dye. This is on recommendation of Pan (Pan the Organizer on YouTube). He of course recommends “rags to riches” but he then says any liquid detergent that is free of scent and dye will work fine. I haven’t had any issues.

Drying the gauntlet towel is a bitch just because it holds so much water.

This spring I may reload some of my towels and also change up my towel washing routine by adding a pre-soak in some general purpose cleaner/water to help remove chemicals and oils. But so far, what I’ve been doing works without issue.

I’ve only used chemical guys mf detergent. I throw everything in there. Korean, regular mf used for door Jambs, wash mitts. they come out great and then I always air them.

I should air dry them but I don’t have the patience. I dry them on low. Also a strategy co-signed by Pan, while not being his primary recommendation.

Yeah, I might do the pre-soak, too next time. I might put a grit guard or stack two on each other in the bucket so that whatever grime and chemicals the detergent or APC pulls off hopefully sinks to the bottom and doesn't just float around in the rest of the bucket and marinate the towels and mitt in it.

And yeah, the gauntlet is really the only one that gives me issues with retaining not just water but detergent too. The other MFs do just fine but there's a noticeable difference in the drying power of the Gauntlet when there's some detergent still left in it and I dry the car before finding out.
