Will the tips fit a standard exhaust?

They won't fit. It would take quite a bit of pipe welding to make it work as both the pipes are different and the depth from the muffler/pipe junction to the diffuser is different. Trust me, I tried. I was going to put mine from the MPE onto the stock exhaust, but no go. Additionally, if you did you would also need to switch the diffuser to the 550i/MPE applicable one as the stock one wouldn't work.

I have a G30 540i xdrive and I'm trying to work out what bits I need but I'm a bit confused as to what the 8-cylinder optics rear bumper trim is. Are you able to clarify and post a picture of those bits too?

Yes, I did read the post and didnt quite follow it. Sorry. I ask as the dealer quote I have is for the exhaust and tips only, no mention of the need to replace the diffuser.

So to upgrade to this exhaust you need the 8 cylinder 550i diffuser part too. If you had any pictures to show the difference in diffusers or a before / after shot on the car that would be very much appreciated to aid understanding.

The difference is obvious when you have a look side by side. Interesting note is that it's actually difficult to find a picture of the car with the standard rear....

Thanks. That is interesting. My car is the 540i and is the same as the as upper picture of YE66 OUX. Will need to do a bit more investigation into part numbers to see if the 540 already has the correct part to accommodate the M Performance exhaust tips.

I had a look through RealOEM and the 540iX and 550iX show different part numbers for the diffusers and both look very similar to your upper photo.

Number 04 on the following for 540iX:-
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_4370

Number 04 on the following for 550iX:-
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_4370

Both parts area also a slightly different weight (0.96kg / 1.09kg) which does suggest they are indeed different.

Been studying a few more images and the difference appears much more subtle.

Here is a high resolution of the 540i
http://images.car.bauercdn.com/pagef...438/zm-002.jpg

This youtube video has a nice close up of the 550i rear end (see 08:84 minutes in)

The only difference I can spot is that exhaust tip cutouts on the 540i look more angular and the ones on the 550i appear more flat on the top.

The 550i diffuser part 51128067763 looks to be a ~£100 part and does look to fit the 540i bumper. I think I'm going to go for it!

He's banned apparently. His last date on here was 6/10/18.

You could look through his old posts/threads and see if he had the M Performance bumper trim.
