Can't seem to figure this one out *Front camera*

I've done a bunch of Google searches, went through a few G30 based Facebook groups but still can't figure out if this is possible. Apologies if this has been answered before.

When hitting the park assist button to the left of the shifter, the rear camera view pops up. Can the front camera also be coded to come up in this view? (with the ability to switch between front and rear?) I'd assume there's a way because when the rear view pops up, there's a header on the screen that states 'Rear'. I'd love to be able to bring the front camera up as well..

Appreciate the help folks!

You should be able to select the view by rotating the iDrive controller.

On my older version of iDrive (NBT/4)…the FRONT camera has its own button that initiates the front view. The PDC button will either select the surround view or rear view cameras. In either case all i have to do is press downward on the iDrive controller knob to change the view from either front to rear (when front cam button is pressed first)…or from surround view to rear when the PDC button is pressed first (or when in REVERSE and the rear cam starts up 1st…the surround view will replace the rear view).

See the 2 examples below…when I press the front view camera button and the front view comes up on the display, if I press downward on the iDrive controller knob, I get a wide angle view from the rear camera (no guide lines or obstacle warnings). But if I press the PDC button, I get the rear view with guidelines and obstacle warnings etc:

Out of curiosity, where is this Front Camera button? I don't recall seeing it anywhere on my 2019 540xi with I drive 6. Thanks, Bob

It's the button below the Parking button, by the shifter, below the drive mode selectors.

If you have the front camera option…you would have either #1 or #4 driving experience switch on your center console.

And you’d also have the camera located on the front of the car between the kidney grilles (see #1 in illustration below):

Ah yes, that is what you mean. After seeing QSilver7's post, I will have to check to see if I have the right setup. I know I have gotten the front camera to work when I am parking and pulling in forward to a curb. I either push the button or first briefly put it in reverse to engage the rear camera, then into drive and the front one goes on. But I think it may have been on my 2016 Corvette Z06, not the BMW. I know the BMW does give me a proximity warning when I approach a curb. Will check and see. -Bob

Edit: I checked and my car does not have a front camera. So what I was remembering was from my 2016 Corvette--a car three years older than my BMW. The BMW still has Park Distance Control so I do get warnings when i get too close to anything in the front. --Bob

So it looks like in order to get the front camera activated I need to be in drive. If I'm in park and hit the camara button there's no amount of iDrive controller combinations that will allow me to get the front camera to pop up.

Have you tried rotating the controller while looking at the screen? You should see the different cameras highlighted.

That is, if I understand your question correctly.

On the LCI, you have to be in Drive because it will default to the rear camera otherwise. There is no option to switch to front camera when you're not in Drive.

The camera selector for where the front would be (again LCI), is for the auto camera mode. And if you're not in Drive, it will show the back.

What camera options do you get when you press the PDC button instead of the camera button?

On older versions of iDrive…the PDC button will initiate surround view…and if you press downward on the iDrive controller knob…you switch to the rear camera…press again, and you get surround. If you select REVERSE, then the rear cam appears, but if you press down on the iDrive controller, you get surround view if the selection along the left of the screen is set to the camera icon.

Question, on the LCI, will the camera views change if you turn the iDrive controller knob when you press the PDC button (instead of the camera button)…similar to what ezaircon4jc wrote?

I'll check this out tomorrow (Camera vs the 'parking' button). Also on a Pre LCI car with ID6.
