Issue Connecting to E-Net Cable with either Bimmerlink or Bimmercode

Made sure that:
1. I’m in Airplane Mode
2. Clicked 3 start/stop 3 times consecutively to get into Diagnostic Mode

Problem:
1. Can’t connect to bimmercode and bimmerlink. I can however connect using a bluetooth obd
2. I know that you’re supposed to get an IP address, but I don’t see it at all

This is my 3rd enet cable to see if the cable is the problem.

Any comments/suggestions help !!

Thanks

You're supposed to enable Ethernet Tethering on your phone.

Getting an IP requires a DHCP server, which your cable would not have.

I’m still a little confused still because it worked previously. Every now and then, it will completely stop working until I do it again another day.

Try setting your IP to static with the following settings:
IP: 169.254.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.0.0

Thanks! I’ll give it a try.

My ENET cable definitely does automatically assign an IP address, not sure where the DHCP is located but I’m guessing it’s in the adapter firmware. Ethernet Tethering is not required.

I had a few issues at first and can’t recall which one sorted it for me. Airplane mode doesn’t fully disable Bluetooth, so worth disabling that as well. I also had a slightly wobbly lightning to Ethernet adapter, make sure the connection light on the RJ45 socket comes on!

What OS? And what's the IP that you get?

It probably worked for you before you upgraded to iOS 15, in which case you need an mfi certified adapter. An ip address should just pop up. I ran into the same and got this one: Lightning to Ethernet Adapter,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B099K2B2YJ...p_mob_ap_share

Think the last time I connected was iOS 17.1, maybe iOS 16 at the earliest - whatever was out in November last year.

My adapter is a 'Bluechok' MFi Certified cheapy off Amazon. This one I think https://www.amazon.com/Lightning-Eth.../dp/B095NYWDNL

Afraid my memory doesn't go back 5 months for an IP address I'll hook it up and take a look tonight.

I do recall the Limit IP Address tracking caused me a headache as it won't work with that switched on - but I see from the screenshot it's already disabled.

For a sanity check, take the car out of the equation, see if you can get your iPhone to connect to the internet over Ethernet through a router.

The odd thing for me is that im fairly certain iOS 16 worked, but 17 did not. I only use bimmer code/link once a year or so.
