More scratches

Some of you may recall that, a few weeks ago, I had some mysterious markings on my windshield that looked like scratches. I was able to remove them, and theorized that they were literally chicken scratchings.

Now, I've discovered a set of scratches on my front passenger door that look similar. Sadly, I can feel some discontinuity in these.

Odd

The thing that strikes me is that there are five major pairs of scratches, going big to small, and the distance between the first and second pairs is greater than between the others. Almost looks like a scratch from a fist, but covered with what?

They are all in a perfectly straight line. You could almost put a ruler vertically on the top (right side) and draw a line. Very odd. To have that means to me, something hit and dragged. Or forward and then immediately back. If you notice, they all have a loop.

I would think "forward then back" too... it is just so weird that the windshield scratches, before, also had that V/parabola shape.

Do y'all think that a product like Dr. Colorchip would make this look right, or am I going to have to bite the bullet and take it to a shop? I hate to have the whole door re-sprayed... and I also hate to pay the high deductible (which I consciously chose).

Dr. Colourchip is worth a shot. You have nothing to lose except a few bucks. It is really a dummy proof product that does wonders to take the edge of.

Looks like a door scratch. At almost full open, a large section of the end of someone's door could contact at the same time. Then it bounces off the hinge, like if the wind grabs a door from someones control. If the car was the right distance away, the door panel would flex and not dent, leaving perfectly parallel check mark scratches but no dent.

Also looks to me as though someone caught it opening their car door & then pulled it shut again

I think you are spot on. When I first replied, I read his post quickly and thought the scratches were on his passenger window similar to the windshield a few weeks ago. This is definitely a door swung wide open and just barely catching his door and then back to close it.

The paint repair guy at my dealer did some really good work when I got mine (used). There was a bad one on the rear bumper and I told him to do his best, I am not interested in respraying or blending the whole bumper. Chamaign Quartz Metallic is to fickle of a color for me to risk repainting a huge area for one scratch. I’m probably the only person that notices it now. He went around the whole car and touched up anything else he saw. There were some road scratches under the front bumper that I didn’t care about because you had to bend down to see them. But he made them totally disappear. Really good work.

My point - before you go high dollar at the body shop, see if your dealer has someone that will give it a shot. Depends on your personality, and God knows I’m picky, but maybe a return to 90-95% appearance for just a couple hundred bucks would satisfy you. Might be worth finding out!
