What's the tunnel effect? I own a euro spec with adaptive and curious what the difference to the US cars are in the lights. My car has 552 and 5AC if that means anything

US is two-stage, on/off.
EU is creating tunnel around cars so as to not dazzle other drivers.

Hi everyone, I just took delivery of my new 2018 G30 540i xDrive with Icon Full LED headlights. I traded in my F32 2014 435i xDrive that also had full LED headlights. I had previously coded to enable variable light distribution and intelligent headlight control (no-dazzle high beams). I'd be interested to know if both of these coding tasks have been successfully performed on a G30 yet and if so is it fully tested and documented? Thanks.

Successfully coded on G12 and G30.
Documented, No.

And do I understand correctly that unlike the F32 you cannot simply remove the offending 5AP (decoding for no-dazzle high-beam) and 8S4 (decoding variable light distribution) codes from the FEM and then re VO code the FEM_BODY and FLA/KAFAS2 to have it set all the necessary values?

Incorrect. For VLD, all you must do for all chassis, including F3x and G3x, is remove 8S4. For NGHB, you must followup with FDL-coding.

Hi Almaretto, I think you misunderstood my question. I am asking/confirming that coding of the NGHB is not as simple as it was on Fxx series cars?

Conversely, it sounds like coding VLD is the same procedure as Fxx, right?

Simple answer, yes. A few more details:
  • VLD coding only requires VO coding, but multiple ECU's.
  • NGHB requires VO coding plus FDL coding. There are about 200 changes, but process is more or less the same. Though, no guides or Launcher Cheat Codes are publicly available so not simple.

Got it. Are you planning on making the list of changes needed publicly available and are you building the Launcher Cheat Code?

Retrofit Adaptive Full LED Headlights

Hi,
as a newbie in Bimmerpost I am not allowed to start a new thread, so sorry to bother here with my question. On August 1st I pick up (European Delivery) my dream car - the 530e (2018). I was surprised to find that the headlights do not look as I expected. A great deal of the confusion though is due to the untrained sale person from the local dealership because he failed to explain to me that there are TWO types of headlights.
All three models - 740e, 530i and 530e were available to test drive and I drove them all before closing the deal, have the Adaptive Full LED Headlights and I had no idea about the existence of another type - (524 Adaptive Headlight + 5A2 LED Headlights), neither that the two inner projectors will be a dummy in this configuration.
My question is about the options I have to replace them with the Full Adaptive. Does someone has been involved in such a problem or have some knowledge to contribute if this is doable at all?
Thanks

Doable, but expensive. You cannot change individual headlamp components; you buy entire headlight housing.

Only the 750 (not 740) can come equipped with 552 ICON LED. Any of the G30's can as well.

Sounds optimistic but I assume your answer is from the coding point of view only. Do you think it might be any mechanical/electrical incompatibility? Will I need in addition of the whole headlight assy to install some other electronics blocks or cables? My car does not have a front camera (on the internal rear view mirror), so the low/high beam switching should be set to manual.

No, it was from a hardware point of view. Not sure whether it will be simple swap or require any modifications for fitment as well as new lighting harness.

Coding would be simple.

My car is on the way to arrive soon but I am starting now the search for schematics, connectors, and their pin allocations. If my findings are positive I would buy one headlight assy (2-3k$) but would you help me with the coding?

Yes, I can help with coding. You will also need ISTA+ to initialize.

Hi Almaretto, do you still provide this decoding service for G30 ICON? Thank you.
