Front Brake Pad Message

I have a notification showing on my 2017 520D G30 for the Front Brake Pads.
It says Change Due Soon and came up first saying, due in 2000 KM.
The car has 95000 KM and I bought it from a Jaguar garage a couple of months ago and have put 3000 KM on it since.
The garage said they serviced it and replaced front and back brake pads when I bought it - my feeling is that they did, but....

I am wondering if the message can come up because they didn't reset a counter when the pads were replaced or does this message only appear if the wear sensor has worn through and activated the message.
I have watched a few videos on how to reset the message but want to have an idea of what can trigger it first.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Pretty sure it's just an idrive counter and it adjusts based on your driving style.

If not reset it will ping early.

BMW uses some kind of algorithm using the sensors for the estimated mileage. When we bought our 2014 535 in 1/17 it had ~25K miles and the car said it needed brakes in 3100 miles. Now, almost 5 years & 50K miles later, it says brakes in 4600 miles. I have no idea, save a visual inspection, when the brakes (front or rear) will need to be replaced.

I thought on the G30 BMW got rid of the iDrive counter and instead the message shows up when the wear sensor is tripped.

Anyone have clear insight on this?

For OP you may have to have the brakes measured. Or look at them yourself. The seller said they changed them, but they may not have it they may not have replaced the wear sensor. Better safe than sorry though.

the garage that replaced the pads probably never reset the counter, the wear sensor probably hadnt worn through so didnt bother resetting, or as i have learnt recently that the car wont let you reset the counter unless the dsc module sees a terminal change, i had to unplug the wear sensor from the loom and plug it back and and then the dsc module sees the terminal change and allows the counter reset, garage may have tried to reset but couldnt for this reason
