On my 2019 M550, my Carplay is often unpredictable. But I have found a consistent problem. When I drop off my kid at school, he opens the front passenger door to get out of the car, then closes it and opens the rear passenger door to get his cello out of the back seat. As soon as he closes the rear passenger door, Carplay disconnects and isn't available again until I restart the car. I like this car but there are plenty of bugs in the infotainment system.

On my 2017 m550i CarPlay is very reliable - doesn't have any of the quirks you mention ?

Not helping you much but at least this shows it isn't a behavior you should expect or accept, perhaps have it checked by the dealer?

Show your SA the issue, replicating the steps. They'll likely first upgrade your iStep level, which installs the current software. Likely this will fix the issue.
