Design differences: m performance vs shadowline.

On the configurator for an M550, the first selection is design: m performance or shadowline ($500). At the end there's an option for extended shadowline ($0).

I can't for the life of me tell the difference between the m performance with extended shadowline option and the shadowline design except the latter has red calipers and cost $500 more.

Is there any difference? Is this a glitch? Why would I want the shadowline 'design'?

ZHO Shadowline Package Includes:

3M2 M Sport Brakes with Red Calipers
3MF M Shadowline Lights
7M9 Extended Shadowline Trim

When you get the Extended Shadowline Trim option by itself, it doesn't have the red calipers and smoked out headlights. I guess they don't charge for the darker trim pieces.

I didn't want the red calipers, so I just went with the Extended Shadowline Trim and kept the regular looking headlights.

Thank you! I don't want the red calipers either, and while I did want the smoked lights, it's not worth $500 for me.

You could ask the dealer to try the individual option codes and see if their configurator takes it.

When they put in my build code from the BMW website, it picked the Shadowline package on the order sheet. They had to remove the package and add the "7M9 Extended Shadowline Trim" option in separately.

I guess I'd have to ask if I really wanted them.

This is my plan currently.

I'm not going to swear to it and I'm too busy (i.e. lazy) to go look and confirm, but...

I think the M550i comes with kind-of-silver mirror caps, regardless of the paint color.

When you pick the shadowline option for $500, in addition to everything listed above, I think they also change the mirror caps to the paint color selected for the car.

For me, that alone was worth $500 (if I am correct).
