Tire protection plan and winter wheel/tire coverage

Hi!
I purchased the tire/rim protection package with my 2018 530xi which came with a set of 245/40/R19 all season tires. I'm looking to buy some winter tires/wheels for the car. The local BMW dealer has very limited options for winter tires and the price is about 2x more expensive than elsewhere.
Also, I really like the Nokian winter tires sold by Kal-tire in Calgary.
But I'm wondering if anyone of you had first hand experience with filing a claim against the tire/rim protection plan where they covered 3rd party winter tires and alloy wheels.
Thanks in advance!

From what I am told, it will cover the tire and rim package from BMW only. As a matter of convenience, I still with the OEM package. If I need a rim or tire, it is likely easier for the dealer to source a tire or rim through their normal channels versus trying to get an aftermarket rim or a less common tire.

May not be what you asked, but - I purchased coverage for my summer OEM tires. I am buying a set of BMW winter wheel/tires and checked if they are covered. They evidently are not, only the OEM tires sold on my car.

tire wheel protection

I purchased an additional set of mud and snow tires and rims from BMW at the time of delivery, and was told both sets are covered by my wheel and tire insurance package. I live in Philadelphia, and the pot holes are horrible. In the first four months I had to replace two front wheels, both insured with a $100 deductible. Five months later, I'll report next week about the damage to the all weather tires and rims. I have at least one tire that needs replacing. Do not buy these wheel sets in an area with potholes without the insurance package.

I recently called the insurer directly and verified that they DO cover winter tire/wheel sets, as long as it is a BMW standard order item bought new.

I purchased not the BMW wheel and tire but a 3rd party one. But they can be different from one dealer to the next. The one I had purchased was from National Auto. Which has already paid for itself. But I did ask about other wheel and tires. And as long as it is installed on the vehicle during the time of accident then it's covered. Of course the best thing to do is review your contact and contact the provider. Speak to a manager then document the conversation. I hope this helps
