Do you wish you had the opposite transmission of what you currently own?

41 days into E92 M3 ownership and I still love the 6MT. Will admit I was in traffic recently and started wondering about DCT. Hence, this poll...

^ haha. same here. but i wish i had a chance to test drive the DCT seriously. For me it's like seeing another car. Yes i want to test drive it, but would i buy it? probably not. maybe you should add another category saying "i wish i had a chance to drive the other type."

interesting thread. I'm a DCT owner, but I had an MT in every car before that. of course there are times when I wish I had the 6MT, but 90% of the time I'm happy I got the DCT. it suits the car quite well.

Sometimes I wish I had 6mt. It's definitely better for hooning.

DCT is certainly nice on a daily basis though.

Same here. Now if BMW offered really great manuals like Honda does.. then i would have done it.

Gearbox in my old S2000 and NSX were amazing.

I had a chance to test drive DCT before I drove 6MT. DCT was definitely fast, and shifted amazingly smooth, but I felt bored. I wanted the car for fun, since I use public transportation to get to work most days. 6MT was the obvious choice. But I sometimes feel like the car is clunky in manual (E46 M3 was better). It also seems to wear on the car more.

Even with all that, nothing beats driving through these curvy northwest roads on a cool summer morning with that 6MT!

Had to look it up:

The act of being a hoon or driving recklessly, racing, doing burnouts etc.
Hey Blake, I'm feeling the need for speed and want to burn some rubber, you wanna come hooning?

I like the second definition better:

to have sex with somebody

And for that it's better to hoon in the car with DCT.

I love my 6MT but it crosses my mind once in a while what it'd be like to own that race car-quick DCT tranny, just a flick of a paddle.

i love the DCT, but since i don't drive often, sometimes wish i had the added fun of the 6 speed. with that said, despite this being my first car without a clutch pedal, it does a better job than i ever could making the car perform.

I'm jealous you owned both the cars that I drooled over nearly a dozen years ago (S2000) or more (NSX) that led me to choose my long standing internet avatar.

Very cool Honda's.

EDIT: So not to thread jack - my DCT hasn't arrived yet, it will be my first non-MT car in 16 years. I'll look for a similar thread in the spring and vote.

I alway want what I don't have. Grass is greener ... yada, yada, yada.

I had DCT in my first e90, so I got 6sp in the new car. Now I want DCT again.

Honestly, other than BMW refusing to change the fluid in the DCT (shame on you BMW), the rest of the DCT issues have been resolved. So as long as you don't expect the trans to last past the end of warranty, the DCT is awesome.

I love the 6MT that I have daily. I would like to have DCT for the track.

Always bought MT cars, now I have DCT - It's the all-around solution... or evolution.

I love DCT, and it's not boring.

If I tracked more I'd probably want the DCT, but for daily driving I don't like the flappy paddles.

I've owned nothing but manuals my whole driving life. After my first day in the DCT I'm done with rowing my own. Similar to my change after marriage.
