540i VSRF Catted downpipe?

OK, so my brain has taken it upon itself to decide that good is no longer good enough, and after much arguing back and forth, I've let Mr. Brain win and have abandoned all hope for common sense etc. It's time to get more power out of the 540i.

MPPSK has been in for a while (that's been great), next came BMS billet intake (also good), and now there's an FTP intake pipe that's just been ordered and is on the way. I've pretty much decided on Bootmod3 instead of going the JB4 route, so that's going to happen shortly as well.
Now.. back to the point of the thread: Downpipe!! I want to run Stage2 and push for around 460 horses, so a pipe is definitely needed. On a rear wheel drive, that should keep things lively enough

Need to keep things legal, so catless isn't on the cards sadly. Is anyone running a VRSF Catted downpipe on their 540i?

Any other high flow options out there that I should be considering? Please chime in if you've got experience with any of the above mix.

+1 for the VRSF catted, you can run stage 2 with no fuel smell at a great price

Just got my vrsf catted dp installed (bought from x-ph^^).

No gas smell at all, and it sounds great! Cold start is pretty loud with a stock exhaust setup, and in normal driving you don't really hear it. Don't skip out on it

Good to hear. I've ordered mine as well. Car's booked in for mid October to get the charge pipe and Boomod3 done at same time. What's your impression performance wise .. anything notable?

Hi everyone, I have a 2017 540i. The car is bone stock but I want to do some mods to it. I was thinking of the JB4 chip tune, down pipe, Remus exhaust and BMS intake. I was playing around with the idea of a upgraded charge pipe, as I hear it helps with throttle response.

What’s a good set up for a down pipe that won’t leave the car smelling like fuel?

As indicated above, the VRSF high flow downpipe doesn't smell any worse than regular cat. It's a good unit, better sound and good bump in power. Definitely the way to go if you need to keep it semi-legal.

I have got my VRSF catted downpipe and it smells after a month.. too bad I park my car in an undergrounds parking and smell is everywhere.. i would say it reduces the smell but doesn't eliminate it completely.

Please explain what you mean by less issues in the future. Won't it be harder to pass inspection going catless?

Burnt out cats a such .. Most high flow cats being sold are not going to help with passing any emissions at all. However there are a few brands 1-2 that I know of that will but they need to be epa approved and usually aren't very cheap.

Will running a catted downpipe without a tune throw a check engine light?

Asking because someone wants to sell me a brand new VRSF catted down pipe.
