Bimmercode in 2021 G30 Turn signals
I have a 2021 5 series with the L shaped dayrunners (are they still called "Angle Eyes"?)
I've never liked how the whole left or right dayrunner light turns off for a turn signal. I was looking forward to coding the Angle eyes to stay on during signaling. But I can't find the option in easy mode of Bimercode. I searched the forums for a help but haven't had any luck. Has any one successfully coded the 2021 dayrunners? does the DRL not go off so it is easier to see the indicator?
personally I dont like it going off either - but that is more to do with my OCD and lack of symmetry on the car as a result! |

Yeh. I must suffer from the same ocd! Always thought that was bad design by putting the indicator right next to the dark! Space then out and you wouldn't have to do that

another thing i have noticed on other cars (mainly VW) is that the indicator seems like too narrow a strip and sometimes (at night mainly) due to the brightness of the brake light, I have struggled to see the indicator - however, that may be an age related factor on my part

I think it's a case of form before function
Seeing this a lot these days where the style of an object seems to taking preference over the functionality or ergonomics of it. In terms of indicators some other makes (ve comes to mind) where the indicator is a light strip that lights up in stages rather than all at once. Again seems to be style rather than offering any benefit. Mini rant over! |

I find it odd that with these newer light arrays that the day runners shift off for the turn signal. That isn't the case on traditional light arrays. Why do it now? Maybe it's regulation, maybe it's durability of LED, I don't know. But my preference would be for the light to stay on instead of the default US behavior. I know you can change the default behavior in other models.
It's just not an easy option on the 2021 G30 as I was hoping it would be in BimmerCode. |

I also find the "dynamic" indicators a big PITA. Can see any benefit to them other than they may "look cool". I agree with the previous comments re style over function but you would have thought the regulators (who mandated the size of mirrors to body ratio) would have something to say about it. I have been in so many situations where I have not seen the indicator flashing on another car (not at high speed and I was looking where I was going)

I know I'm biased but preLCI Icon LED is the pinnacle of 5 series headlight design. I had a loaner LCI for 2 weeks and couldn't get past the deficiencies in the headlights- dark spots between high and low, no swivel and aesthetic wise the L DRL and shutoff with indicator. Versus the Corona/hexagon, always on DRL, full adaptive Icon it's no contest.

I'm with everyone else on here so far - I've always disliked it when a DRL turns off to be replaced by the indicator signals. Think it lazy design even if it may be more complicated software programming-wise.
Was one of the ways why BMWs used to be better than others. Now… |

There is no FDL code for this option. Vehicle has to coded with Euro Type which i can do remotely.
