tails from ebay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Smoked-Tail...-127632-2357-0

hmmmm....?? from China though? $724 is more than I'd want to spend but much less than I've seen elsewhere. also...plug n play? doubt that!

Cheap, Chinese and Tacky. $724 is only a few hundred less than OEM LCI's. Do it right.

Thanks! Def want that Euro spec after seeing your video. Let me bookmark this and keep checking in for the next couple weeks. Maybe they'll have a Christmas or NYE sale.

So how about coding? I read somewhere that the bimmercode device/app now has the ability to code LCI tails yourself without needing someone to professionally code it? Do you know about this? I can't seem to find the thread and screenshot that I was reading yesterday.

Don't forget that many dealers (if you want to go OEM) will give a discount to BMW CCA members. Including Pelican, I believe. Which bought BavAuto, but is now part of ECS. Yeah, figure that one out.

Correct, the only issue is that US dealers will not sell you Euro tails which is the way most people are going,

I confess I’m very tempted. It’s not so much the price, in fact I’d pay a premium for something that just works out of the box with no hassle. All of the various issues that people have encountered with the LCI retrofit make me apprehensive. I don’t think I’ve seen a single person report that everything worked properly on their first shot with one coding session…

They did for me. Depends on the coder I guess. Honestly, most peoples issues are with the supplier getting the order wrong. But yeah, coordinating with coders is just kind of a pain in the ass in general from my experience. I'm still waiting on Vic to tweak my rear fogs which I don't consider part of first time success. I've kind of given up on the "play it by ear " timing from coders.

did you do the actual installation yourself? I've been reading about 5 pin (Euro) vs 4 pin (NA) connectors.

I did not but I did enough research to be able to tell my installer what to do. That said, I could have easily done it myself as I'm very comfortable with wiring, it was just worth $300 of my time for them to do it. I had them run the 5th wire from the BDC.

See the LCI thread in the F90 forum for all you ever wanted to know.

Couldn’t resist and grabbed some knockoffs from another seller on eBay. Took me around 4 hours to install with a lot of stumbling, I’m a novice at this sort of thing. But, no rewiring and no coding needed, and no issues with the welcome lights. I don’t have the 5th wire. I’m quite pleased and don’t have the eye to tell them apart from the real thing. Forgive the poor quality pictures.

Nice job and thanks for taking the plunge! I've seen others on the Facebook groups do these but it's hard to get a feel or good look at them on the Facebook groups as they just aren't like forums with members. Just quick posts and a zillion "looks great brah" replies.

So now you HAVE TO get some better pics for us. It's really hard to tell the how good they look. Honestly, something in the daylight, a rear shot and then maybe a good closeup of one. Not too interested in how they illuminate in pictures as the lighting isn't accurate in a pic.

Something like my picture on the bottom taken in daylight. Yours is the top blurry night pic.

Edit: the lights came with all 4 plastic rails. The old rails indeed won’t give a proper seal.

Joe, will do. The only thing more embarrassing than those pics is how filthy my car currently is- snapped them in a rush while on the way to dinner.

There were 3 major things that wasted time:
1. The lights came with adapters and instructions to plug both the inner and outer lights into them, and then plug the adapters into the car’s wiring. This was necessary for the inner lights but not the outer. The adapter prevented the outer lights from working. The outer lights work as is, plugged in directly, just like the oem LCI lights. I spent an hour fiddling before realizing this.

2. For some reason a couple of the pieces of weatherproofing foam came affixed to a piece of paper instead of the outer lights. I forgot to put them on at first and had to backtrack. Their adhesive also came off stuck to the paper so I used rubber cement to glue them to the lights.

3. I didn’t know how to remove the expanding rivets. Turns out it’s very easy to do with a trim removal tool.

Nice, glad it all worked out. I was wondering about whether they include rain guards and gutters. Looking forward to some clear pictures to compare to OEM.

Was curious to know do these aftermarket LCI taillights have that BMW "insignia" stamped at the "outer taillights" areas on the upper side of the "internal" surface?
