Exclamation How can I remove the door trim?

Hi Guys, I have been following these threads for a while but now I have a question myself. I have just bought myself a nice leather interior, complete with leather door panels. On these panels, the silver coloured trims have been removed so I want to take my existing trims and put them on the new panels.

Now with my former 5 series (F10) this was really easy, in the G30 I find that really hard and I am afraid to damage them if I pull too hard. I have the impression that the trim is riveted on the panel. Any of you know how to do this without breaking anything? Thanks so much for your advice!

I saw a video where someone was changing the speakers in the door and that went into detail into how to take the door card off.

It may have been on these forums possibly. I can't remember the product name unfortunately but with some googling, that may help.

Thank you for your reaction AP, I also found a video from Bavsound where they take the panel out but unfortunately they didn't remove the trim. I have googled quite a bit but haven't come across how to remove te trim unfortunately.

Check out post #40 in the link below. It's related to changing out speakers which also involves removing the door panels. Start viewing at 7 1/2 minutes into the video

Hi Dobie Dog, yes this is a very clear video. I have removed the door panel just like he shows how to do but my problem is how to separate the trim (silver part including the inner door handle) from the entire door panel once you have taken that off the door. As I am typing this, my fingers still hurt :-).

There should be few screws behind the panel.

I solved it. The trims are fixed by plastic rivets, probably with the intention to stay there forever. I have carefully drilled out the heads (new sharp metal drill 6,5) applying very little pressure just to remove the top of the rivets. Then the trim came off. I mounted them on the new door panel with 16mm screws with a ring. Careful not to use too much torque so nothing breaks. Case closed!

Old thread but thought i would post some photos of the rivets which need drilling out to release the trim as mentioned earlier in the post. Just had to do this myself. Thanks to the OP for posting the solution.

I believe this is what you are looking for? Definitely get a pack of these before removing the door card because you will break a few of them.

You can never have enough! Seriously though, have backups for the backups because these things can break easily.

Does anyone know the name of the plastic rivet that rtthane drilled out as he showed in the picture earlier in this thread? I followed this link https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_4740 and it looks like item 16. but that item is greyed out, so I can't figure out what it's called or a part number.

I'm wondering if I I could use the exact same part to fasten the new door trim? It's gotta have some kind of a name. or can anyone find a link to where to buy them? I read someplace that I need a special kind of a melting tool... but I'm just nerdy enough to search for one.

Does anyone think this is the plastic rivet used to fasten the wood trim to the door panel? I've been having a hard time figuring it out, and it seems that nobody knows what it's called or where to order it. But This video looks like it might be the part!

A possible clue!!! Although, looking at this, once you remove the top, the bottom stays in the whole, so you screw into the bottom part with a small screw. Unless you can drill out the entire part, and insert a brand new one.

And another clue on how to remove. I know most videos show a slow drill movement to break the top. This video shows a different approach. It's not a G30 door, but does show another view of how to remove these rivets. I thought it might be helpful to add it to this thread.
