New tire replacement

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
To my Atlanta, GA Folks,

I went to Kauffman tires to have my tires replace. They told me that they would have to purchase new tire pressure sensors as well. (The current sensors are working just fine.)

Is this normal practice for tire replacement? I spoke to my BMW service rep and he said that sensors should not break if the installer knows what he/she doing.

Any recommendation around Atlanta?

First of all no - if sensors are working, they can and should be reused. Rubber o-rings could be replaced to guard against air leaks, but that's about it.

As far as Atlanta tire installer recommendations go, you can safely start with the TireRack recommended list. Search by zip code here:

Very few BMW dealers would attempt such a sales pitch, because it is not true.

Around here dealer tire prices are quite competitive and they will at minimum attempt to match. Unless you are switching to a brand not carried at your dealer, there is no reason not to give the business to them. Even if it costs $100 more, I'd rather give the biz to the dealer whenever possible.
