I think the low consumption was due to the drive back down south. Car treated it as downhill

Can't disagree on the price differential. Usually diesels tend to be a bit more expensive than similar petrol cars, just not in this case

Diesel never stuck with US consumers other than trucking and bus/coach companies.

For us is no loss. There were plans to sell the 540d here, but BMWUSA has pulled the plug on diesels and instead will focus in plug in hybrids and electrics.

Petrol is cheap for us. We do t get taxed on displacement or emissions, so there is little incentive for diesel technology in passenger cars. The demand is just not there.

Absolutely, if Petrol was as cheap here as in U.S. then I wouldn't drive a diesel!

Yes I’d definitely spec the 40/20/40 rear seats, I made the mistake of not getting them on my first F30!

Whereabouts in Norfolk are you mate?
South Norfolk near Wymondham
I was up for med blue but changed at last minute to Sophisto grey, no regrets, love it !
Have you ordered yet?
My 530d M sport came from Cooper Norwich
Good dealership
Quick question, why does everyone go for the x drive version, I drove both before buying and there was no comparison IMHO, one was more expensive and less fuel efficient and the other much much more fun with nicer feel on the helm ?

X-drive was a std fitment on my 540i, not sure why you would not want it for wet or winter weather given the torque of the 530D everyone talks about. I have no comparison to rwd, but the fuel efficiency of the X-Drive 540i is pretty impressive and give me the 4 wheel drive safety and stability any day.

Ok not far from me, i’m in the big city of Norwich!

Xdrive is just brilliant for pulling away from junctions and traffic lights in the wet, plus I do occasionally go on muddy farms etc.

I've had an X3 and 2 X5s and now a G31...which is the best of the lot by far. I love the looks (and am an old man, so that's OK then) and in my opinion it looks better than the saloon. 530i is sufficiently quick for me - loaded up extras and the carwow discount more than covered the cost of them. Would have liked the 540i xdrive, but a bit too pricey for me. The G31 drives much better than either the X3 or X5 and feels like it has more space then them both too. Fantastic family car. The only thing I miss a little from the Xs is the higher driving position. Sometimes feel like I can't see past stuff in front now. But it's worth it!

Was it the old X3 though? New one is meant to be much better.

Anyway I've just had the quotes from Tony and the X3 M40d is coming out £50pm cheaper than the 530d!

Is that because of a higher gfv ?

Specing a 540i and X3 M40i on DTD X3 is about 3k more expensive for comparable spec.

Need to get test drives arranged to confirm final spec (especially suspension) and will then give him a shout to see what he can do

Wow, would love to know what quote you are getting. X3 M40i has always worked about that amount more than a G30.

Gfv is definitely a large factor, 530d list £61k gfv £19.8k
M40d list £58.1 gfv £24.4k!

X3 was a 2011 F25 - one of the first of the second generation, but not the latest facelift/model. Still a great car. The X5s were better though, one an N57 40d and the other an F15 30d. But the G31 is better still
