I was driving on 676 in Center City Philly, and there is about a section of road for about a 1/2 mile that is essentially a tunnel.......let me tell you, the M550 with this mod done sounds "conservatively glorious" if that makes any sense. Its not brash or startling by any means, but when I was next to the M550 and it took it off it was very classy and I was very, very impressed!!!!

I've been in this car for a month, and even after this mod I still can't hear the exhaust. Have to roll the windows down and try to not focus on the electronic stuff piped in through the speakers

You can code to turn off the piped in sound with Bimmercode.

I know. But that doesn't make my car any louder

Question for anyone who can answer it.

I pulled the fuse and the exhaust flaps are definitely open. It sounds great.

However I am wondering if there are any other functions in the car that are deactivated when the fuse is pulled?

I'm thinking not but I don't know
I have dealer resetting my ECU today/tomorrow should be done. Got a cool 2020 M340i with 790 miles as a loaner today. Fun car. But I'll ask the tech tomorrow , I put the fuse back in lastnight just in case as I was wondering same thing.

Nope, dedicated to the flap (Fuse F203):

Looking to do this mode. Here are some dumb questions?

1. How do I know all flaps are open after starting the car in sport plus mode? Is this just timing thing? 1 min enough?

2. What's the difference between fuse mode and driving in sport plus all the time? Does the car keep flaps open once in sport mode or it varies? I guess I m trying to understand if the fuse mod improves sound over sport and sport plus or just "open" the flaps for eco and comfort modes?

1. Pulling the fuse when the flaps are open (Sport Mode), means they cannot close when moved out of that mode. Hence, they stay in Sport mode.

2. I assume driving in Sport Mode all the time is same as pulling the fuse - the flaps are both open.

It essentially keeps the flaps open in ALL modes ALL the time. A big sound improvement for those not always in Sport Mode.

The 2020 M550 has an option in iDrive to set the exhaust flaps to open all the time, even in comfort mode. Assume this is new to this model year?

And I might add, the new option works like a champ! You want the flaps open all the time, even through ignition cycles? Viola, just hit the sporty setting!!!!!

My 440 is a 2017 and if I put it in Sport or Sport plus my valves stay open all the time...
So your all saying that your valves dont stay open in these modes except for MY2020?

Fuse pulled 550

I pulled the fuse and sounds better, no need to press the sport button every time. I preferred that method than the exhaust clip thing.

My outer pipe flaps appear closed even on cold start up. Sounds louder when warming up but the flaps are closed. What am I missing? Sorry if this has been covered over and over...

Bimmercode/link has had this option for a while now and seems like they are copying how apple uses old jailbreaking capabilities to improve future ios versions.

Bimmerlink needs to be always connected so that is not an option.

From the developer himself.
"the exhaust flap control is temporary and it will switch back to default operation when the car is shut down."

So digging up this post.

1) can anyone say if this fuse pulling method works on a 540i G30?

2)I have an exaustmeister that I want to install on my G30 540i but cant find the vacuum switch detailed here?
Electric changeover valve exhaust flap #2 in picture. https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...cooler/XRklATX

Has anyone installed an exhaustmeister on a G30 540i that can chime in on install?

Thanks for any help!

Thanks!

this is awesome...I just ran across this...I pulled fuse F203...having a hard time reading the diagram.

Whats interesting is when i'm in the car and put it in sport mode, you can here the inside get louder. I'm guessing that's the sound being pumped in? And is that through the speakers I guess?

I just tested this and it only changes the synthetic sound inside the cabin - it doesn't affect the flaps at all. I had to go ahead and do the fuse trick to keep the flaps open permanently.

OK, so just an update for any 540i owners out there. I was able to get this to work but want to explain details below. This was on a 2017 540i so experience may vary depending on year.

I was not able to get my passenger side flap to open. Even in Sport or sport+ mode it was closed. Maybe something is wrong but don't care as read below.

As we know, there are apps (Carly & Bimmerlink) that allow us to open the flaps but with the caveat that the app needs to stay connected and the OBD2 connector needs to stay connected which is not what I wanted.

What I ended up doing is a combination of everything I have read in this post (except the physical zip tie method as did not want to go that route).

1) I hooked up via BimmerLink and opened the flaps. Verified by looking down the pipe and verified that flap is opened. Also hear it open as we all know.
2) I then yanked the fuse which kept it stuck opened.
3) Verified it is now open no matter what and I am happy.

Dont know if you guys know but Dinan just came out with a controller for this valve. The only thing that this $229 part gives you that this trick doesn't is the ability to close it at will which I would prob never do so I just saved $229 :-)
https://www.dinancars.com/products/e...arts/R660-0001

Thanks for the fuse# as that was key!
