My car came with the Harman Kardon system. I purchased replica bowers and wilkins speakers from AliExpress. I got the entire set 16 speakers in total. So far I've replaced the rear window shelf mid range and tweeters, rear door mid-range, I wasn't too sure about replacing the tweeters in the rear doors with the door handles. Mid range and tweeters for the front doors are done. I still have to replace the center dash speakers and the subwoofers under the seats.

I've had them for a couple of days. The sound is improved, less distortion at higher volumes and higher clarity. I'm hoping to get the center dash speakers replaced soon and the subwoofers to get a good feel of everything.

Here's a link to where I got them. Everything was plug and play. The quality of the speakers and craftsmanship looks and feels much better than the oem speakers. The speaker grills with the ambient lighting is a beautiful touch. The most annoying part is avoiding to break any clips from the doors. I bought a bunch of clips so I was able to replace anything that I broke. All good.

How long did it take you? Not concerned about the sound upgrade, but it would be a nice aesthetic upgrade. Given that it's made in China, long term reliability would be my biggest concern.

Looks like only the 11 piece version is available right now on that link. Did you have to add multiple things to the cart to get the full setup, or was there a full option that's now missing?

Been interested in doing this and the pricing seems pretty decent for the aesthetic upgrade

Btw The OEM Harman Kardon speakers that came off the car are also made in china lol
G38 which is a G30 but long wheelbase is assembled in China too.

The rear window shelf and rear doors took me 4 hours. The front doors took me 3 hours. It's definitely back breaking!

You will have to add each set to your cart separately. Front tweeters with grills. Rear window shelf speakers with grills. The door speakers you will need 2 sets for front and rear. Door speakers covers. Center dash speakers and cover. Subwoofers, etc. most of them have the part numbers which match realoem.com part numbers.

I understand, but to me there's a big difference with BMW testing a product for their car and warrantying it vs a seller on AliExpress who you may have a hard time reaching 2 years from now.

So are the LEDs actually in the speakers or in the covers? Would be great if they are in the covers and you can add the Covers (LEDs) to match the ambient lighting without changing the actuals speakers.

That might be an issue down the road. I'm keeping all the oem parts until I sell the car. If I ever need to revert back to stock, I can easily do so.

The LED lighting is on the covers, however the original speakers are black vs B&W speakers are white/silver which reflects the light. The speakers give off a nice effect with the ambient lights. The oem grills/covers on the doors have tabs that need to be grinding off to take them off. I'm sure you can put them back if you use screws instead.

If the LED lights fail I would just disconnect them and keep those covers on as they look really nice still.

Last night I replaced the subwoofers. On the right with the yellow cone is the Bowers & Wilkins subwoofers. Haven't had a chance to really test it but it seems like there's more bass than before.

Do the rear door grills glow as well? I've really just been looking to purchase replacement grills to try to incorporate the glow into my H&K grills. Don't really like the bright shiny look.

The rear door speaker grills glow too but only in the mid-range not the tweeters on the rear doors.

I listened to music so loud on the way to work this morning to hear how the quality is and I'm impressed. I don't usually crank up the volume this high and I think my ears suffered damage lol it was clean sound and no distortion. I don't think I need anything more than this. I even tried it with bass cranked up all the way and it didn't get distorted like it used to. Not that I listen to music with the bass turned up all the way.

I'm happy with the install, it's a lot of work to try and put it all together in one day, I'm glad I did it in parts and took my time. I really didn't wanna break anything. I'm gonna be comparing it to a friend's car with the stock Harman Kardon to give my final thoughts in the next couple of weeks.

It can only be worse quality than HK. As far as I see you've spent money on downgrading your sound.
