No problem - for me it is only the engine one that seems to go down very very slightly. I will keep on it, if it does it again from now until Feb when it is serviced I will ask again!

Your engine water pump is leaking.

Could well be... Its not long until it goes back for a service and I will look weekly at the level. If it drops I will get on the phone immediately!

My 530i was with the dealership for 6 days for them to fix the leak , stated water pump replacement on the work order , that was in July 2018. I have another 3 incidents of low level coolant since, last topped up on 27 Feb 2020. I have learnt from this forum BMW 2017+ and after , increased reported cases of low level coolant. The use of two coolant tanks/reservoirs is the issue?
Wonder if 530e has this issue....

The issue is a bad quality part that fails prematurely.

I had the coolant warning a couple of seeks ago. It was intermittent, but then finally stayed on. My SA said just bring it in anytime and we'll top it off. I did, and they did, and said they found no leaks anywhere. So no big deal for me. For now.--Bob

I have 32000 miles on car. I got message twice, both times around 12,000 miles. I just had car pressure checked and it came back no leaks.

Trust me there is a leak somewhere, albeit a very slow one.

Water pump, turbo cooler line, etc.

It was the same for me... "No leaks" and "They all do it" type of answers.

Coolant Leak Service Bulletin

Here's the service bulletin. BMW states the cause is: "Aluminum corrosion in the charge air coolers or the radiator for the low temperature cooling is causing an unfavorable chemical reaction to the coolant."

I'm keeping it in mind when my new M550i arrives in late July.

Before I placed the order I sat for an hour with the service advisor at my local dealer (I've been bringing them my cars since 2005 or so when I moved into the area.)

The short version - I asked him to tell me all the things that he's being seeing go wrong with the G30 since they rolled it out. The item he brought up was the coolant issue. He did not describe any major leaks, but did say in the M550 they had several customers come in to have it topped off (which they did at no charge). He was also adamant that you only use their coolant, nothing else.

I also hit him up for the expected costs for maintenance items I would need to cover beyond the MX plan's expiration, etc., but that's for another thread/post.

In any event, seeing this thread on the forums brought the issue back to mine so I thought I'd post the bulletin.

Thanks very interesting but seems to apply only to the M550i with the N63 V8.

I had to top off my main reservoir today at a dealership.
Got the low coolant warning, and indeed the coolant level was below the “min” indicator.
Dealership topped off about 8 oz.

Car has around 6800 miles, and no coolant drops in the garage or at work.
There was some white crust in and around the cap.

Was told these cars burn oil and coolant.

Apologies to all. I didn't notice that detail.

Here's the link to the bulletin for the B46, B58 and XB1H (PHEV) engines:

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...46575-9999.pdf

Unfortunately, it's not nearly as helpful as the other in terms of ID'ing a specific cause for those engines - bleed the system and refill, or check for leaks and fix them.

Cause listed is the suspected lack of complete fill during manufacture discussed earlier.

My F10 with the N63 leaked/consumed oil regularly until my dealer completely replaced all the valve seals, etc. for free as part of the Bang Settlement.

The Update 3 version of the N63 has valve seals that, according to the BMW tech docs for the engine (page 8 in the attached PDF), they are making the seals out of a new material. Hopefully that addresses the issue.

According to my service advisor, they haven't had major oil consumption issues with the Update 3 engine. Have to consider the source on that one, but they've dealt fairly with me over the years.

My 340i also had significant coolant loss after 1 year. I couldn't find any spot where it was coming from, so I topped it off and after a year it was still good.

I wonder if they were coming borderline low from the factory?

factory toped low was one of the "possible" explanation from my dealer (I told them to do a leak test and actually jack the car up over 2 days, couldn't find a leak)...
