Tuning, JB4, Dinan, warranty???
I literally just bought a 2019 M550 and I see so many people have tunes, chips and modifications to the motor.
What is a chip and what is a stage 1 dinan tune? I don't want to void my warranty but I would like to add some horsepower to the car. Sorry for the rookie question but could anyone tell me what a JB4 is and all this tuning difference and best option I should go for? My dealer told me any modification involving tuning is 100% going to void the warranty. But one of the guys told me at the dealer if I chip the car and remove it before it goes back to the dealer they will never know. Anyone have any idea what any of this means? |

Just begin searching threads and google the Dinan and jb4. There is a lot of info that you can catch yourself up to speed

I ended up getting the JB4. Considered the dinan as my local dealer installs and warranties. The JB4 isn't a true ECM tune and can be removed prior to going to the dealer for any service work. It's essentially the same thing as dinan but in my case was about $1500 cheaper. The research I have seen is that the power is better with JB4 and still quite conservative if worried about premature engine parts failure. I would get the JB4 and never look back to be honest.

I just called local dinan dealer they said JB4 is the worst tune you can do on a car, figures a dinan dealer would say that lol. I also spoke with another guy who said he actually tunes the car manually with no external chip module box added and that's the best way to go since he can remove it for $100 if I ever need to get dealer service. any ever heard of this kind if tune? I mainly worried cause I paid extra for 100k mile warranty and would hate to void that

the issue with JB4 is that it needs to connect to the OBD sensor I believe - so just an extra piece of work having to fish the wire through the firewall down into the interior..

ok so if I decide to go JB4 would the dealer notice at all if I take the box out if i ever need service?
Am i really going to notice a difference power wise and mainly which JB4 should I buy cause the dinan tune is like thousands of dollars and from what I found it looks like the best HP JB4 they offer is only $799. Am i looking at the correct thing? |

What about the insaurance I or we get thru Gieco that covers issues like this if factory warranty doesn't cover a breakage.

Any piggy back system will leave boost faults in the computer. They can find it easily. If you stuff something expensive....believe me...they will dig deep enough to find it

Jb4 told me that their tune left marks even if its removed... so dobt be silly mike plis
Every tune will left information in your datalogs that the cars was tuned... its important to clear all logs before visit in bmw. Ots easy but U have to have good guy who will do it for U. It doesnt metter if it is box or proper tune, bm3 or jb4, dinan it will left marks. |
