Would have liked to see a segment on the M division. Thought that the one exec's accusations of plagiarism by Audi was pretty lame. Seems to be the other way around with BMW now leaning towards the 2L turbo engine. (Along with seemingly every other manufacturer out there) This has been VW/Audi's bread and butter powerplant for years.

Like others, I would have liked to see some focus on the M division, so I was a bit disappointed when it ended. However, I still really enjoyed it, and will definitely be watching it again.

not sure if I did it correctly...but give it a try.

It is with commercials and HD converted to m4v.

Hope it works

liked it! bmw ftw!

curious to see if the brand will lose it's 'status' when the market is saturated with bmws when they intro the fwd versions or the bmw i...

and i never knew bmw was so close to be just another division of mb!

The PhD put on a serious face (as if the reporter just insulted his job) and explains what should they do as a acoustic engineer.

I would give this show a "C".

1) Objections raised by Consumer Reports guy were unfounded.
2) BMW driving school?
3) M division?
4) The show's portrayal of "over engineering". We are paying for this!

Anyways good to see the Welt again

The Sound Engineer part reminded me when Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson reviewed the Cadillac CTS, he hates and felt extremely annoyed by the "bong" the car makes, monotone, the same bong for various alerts.

Noted, but I think the show is focus on "engineering obsession to perfection". Instead of a general overview of BMW. I agree on the M division, but probably can skip Performance Driving School, or just a brief touch on it. There's just simply too much to cover what BMW does.

Random thoughts on the show.

1. The Consumer Reports guys claims were not unfounded. BMW does not have as good a record for reliablity as some of the competition and all of the organizations that track the reliabilty of automobiles concur on this. Don't shoot the messenger.

2. Due to their obsession with perfection they spend a huge amount of effort on the sound of chimes and then they place the preset buttons for the seats (and the LED indicator!) on the side of the drivers seat where it is hard to reach and can only be seen when you open the door and get down on your knees outside the car.

3. Any decent sound designer could come up with every sound for every BMW model in a few days.

4. All car companies destroy cars in crash tests. They are legally mandated to do so,

4. I thought it was more of a commercial, or at best a prommotional film, than a documentary,

5. I think they concentrated on hype and fluff and did not capture the "soul" of the brand. No mention of the M Division, the Motorsports division, the BMWCCA, the obsessively loyal core client base or any of the things that distinguish the brand.

6. Rolls Royce was hand crafting cars, using the highest quality leather, burl wood, etc. since long before BMW purchased them and for that matter since long before BMW was in the automobile business. BMW may have brought some engineering expertise to RR but in the process they "uglied up" the brand.

7. The classic 507 is indeed one of the most beautiful roadsters ever made.

8. I thought Csabe Csere was right on with his anslysis. In many cases the is nothing particualry unique about BMW designs but they seem to be able to get them to work much better than the competition. The fact that the 3 Seires and the M3 have led their segments for so many years attests to this,

Not too sure but didn't the Rolls Royce worker say BMW just provides the engine but the rest, it's all Rolls Royce Motors? I don't think BMW has a big say on how models look, that's all on RR, BMW just provides the engine.

did i miss it or did they not mention anything about the M brand in the whole documentary? I watched the whole thing i was surprised there wasn't even a mention of it. I know its a sub division of BMW but still a very very important piece of BMW IMO.

They said nothing about the M division, i was hoping for a bit more history and see more of the classics!

It was mostly an hour worth of looking at their manufacturing process

Was able to Tivo the show -- so glad I didn't miss it. And it was broadcast real HD (full 1080i instead of 720). Everything was so sharp and crisp

As an owner of an M3 I was a little pissed they didn't talk about the M division. Would definitely have preferred that to the segment on RR, but what the heck.

The most amazing part for me wasn't so much the history -- who among us doesn't already know all of that stuff? -- it was seeing high-def footage of BMW Welt! I'll be there in September to pick up my new 7 and can't wait! Seeing this segment ratcheted up the anticipation level considerably. If the point of this segment was paid propaganda by BMW, then they got me hook, line and sinker.

Fantastic show! Makes me proud to be a BMW customer. It is time for the copycat automakers ( Lexus, Audi) to open their doors to show us what it takes to create their products.
