Anyone Using Bimmergeeks ProTool?

I just took the plunge an grabbed and Android Tablet, MHD Black Adapter and purchased the Master License.

I surfed around it for a bit and was wondering if there are any users out there I could ping for questions? It's definitely going to take some getting used to.

Thanks.

Hey Joe, I'm only aware of Jeff on the G30 FB group that's using this. I'm considering pulling the trigger on this as well.

Thanks, Jeff's the one who turned me on to it. I'm definitely hitting him up with questions as well as the company itself who is very responsive.

Hey Joe,
Me again, I know I've asked you a lot of questions. Thanks for your patience and help. I got the diffuser and Dinan mid exhaust that you recommended. My local dealership did the installations.
I'm still looking to get the OEM LCI tail lights. I'm now being told that I need to have my vehicle is still on the July 2018 firmware. The coding for the LCI requires an updated firmware.
What firmware is your vehicle current on?

Hey Mark,

No problem on the questions! I think I owe you an answer on something else as well, I will look over our threads.

My car has very recent software for all modules, including the BDC which is the module where the lights will be coded. I had the dealer update my car with the latest of everything prior to delivery in April. Any good coder (including VIC) is aware of the requirements and is capable and will update the software/firmware on that module as part of the coding. Hope this helps.

Thanks Joe,
I'm looking to setup coding for the OEM LCI tail lights. The guys over at codemybimmer ran my vin but stated that my firmware is July 2018. Apparently I need to have the vehicle updated to the latest firmware to have the coding done.
Now to convince the dealership that the car NEEDS to have it done

The diffuser is a nice visual touch. I love it. Just need to add the side skirts and front splitter. I'm having no luck sourcing said parts. Any suggestions on a seller? I've been looking on eBay. Maxton doesn't have any stock.
As to the mid-pipe, WOW! I'm now back to driving it in Sport plus. It's music to my ears.

Reach out to Vic? I am sure he can flash the software and code. Good to know on codemybimmer, I was going to try them and still might, but surprised they can't flash the module for you.

The dealer will, they may charge you $100-$150. Tell them you are doing an LCI retrofit.

Nice! Can't wait for my Dinan system to come in. I am not a super expert on diffusers, lips, etc. The rear diffuser I just put was my first ever diffuser mod.

Vic coded for my LCI tails (Thanks Joe for the recommendation) I am pretty sure my car's software has never been updated but Vic got them to work.
In hindsight I should have had the SW updated before any coding. I recommend you do so.my 540 is a 2018 btw.

Joe, is this a "shortcut" type of coding ? Where it gives you an easier/user friendly interface versus "expert" mode in bimmercode ? I really like the backups and how you can revert back and forth from factory to the way you coded your car. It might be wishful thinking, but I was hoping for something like "Code Euro LCI Tail Lights" as a selection. Here is what I pulled from the website.

Code every possible codeable feature and ecu in the car. ProTool allows access to over 1000 codeable features on any given vehicle.
• Default Code(code back to factory settings) any control unit in case of a module swap or needing a fresh start.
• Edit your vehicle order for easy retrofits and quickly adjust multiple settings
• Create multiple backups and restore back at any given time to save certain configs for dealer trips.
• Expert coding mode to modify nettodata, add custom features etc for advanced users.

So far Mark, I am very impressed with both the power and the simplicity of the coding options. I am also impressed with the support. I have been pinging them with questions constantly and they are all over it. In terms of coding - they have three categories - Popular (really easy one clickers), Standard and Expert. Standard if also pretty straight forward. ProTool is way more powerful than Bimmercode, but you can't get in any trouble because you can back up and restore if you f up something.

I have only spent the last few morning before gym/work playing with it. I don't believe there is a one touch LCI Tail button, but my buddy Jeff referenced above used ProTool to program his LCI's. There is a "Popular" coding entry for Anti Dazzle and VLD. I was pretty impressed with that. There are also Popular entries for changing you ambient lights to any color you want high and low. It is literally like picking from a menu.

Today I backed up every module in the car and saved them to the cloud. As you read on their site, you can restore code to factory at the push of a button. It's pretty cool, much better than Bimmercode with more options and easier to use in expert mode. The downside is Bimmercode is around $80 with the adapter. I am into this for $300. If had to buy an Android tablet for $70 bucks, if you use an Android phone you could save that. Also, I bought the Master license for $150 that includes diagnostic and coding. I probably could have gotten by with just coding.

The other cool thing is being able to read your Vehicle Order. I'd say ProTool is on par with Esys and ISTA, but you don't need a laptop and it's more intuitive.

Yeah, you need to run the beta to have all the goodies such as AD and VLD as well as the ambient lighting menu.

If you go to the google Playstore and search on ProTool, there should be a check box to run the beta.

Thanks! I'll give it a try.

I tried out the "popular" option to make the displayed speed equal the actual speed, but that didn't work. So I'm not sure how much "beta" means here. I'll keep playing with this to see what I can find.

On a 2018, I'm surprised you are still on the original firmware. When I took my 2018 M550ix car in for annual service in April 2021, I had a complaint about the HVAC memory settings so they updated the firmware and said I am now on version 3, from version 1. When I went in for my fourth and last "free maintenance" service at The BMW Store in Vancouver, BC March 2022 they said there was now a version 4, but I declined the update, as I didn't want to lose all my current coding (VLD, Anti dazzle, Carplay full screen, and all the bimmercode stuff. They said the updates are usually not mandatory and only correct minor issues and not to worry about it. As Joe said, you can always pay...can't be more than $200 cdn.

Their support is phenomenal. The best way to reach out is through their Facebook page. Either through message or a post.

I spent some time yesterday building a map of every tunable parameter on the "Popular" and "Standard" menus. I'd post it here but it's five pages long. Then I updated to the beta version and found that I need to make some changes to the list. Ideally I'd like to post the list in a common area somewhere where we can share our notes about which items work, which don't, any comments, prerequisites, etc. Is there a place on this forum where we can collectively maintain that?

I'm still collecting my initial impressions of the software. I like the English translations of many of the parameters, however specific parameters can be hard to find in Expert Mode since the seem to be grouped together behind the menu items. It also looks like there are lots of items that don't work for my particular car (e.g. speedometer correction, Comfort mode sailing.)

That's a great idea on a ProTool blog type of thread. Right here in this group works for me. Yeah, the interface does take some getting used to. I'd say one of the main reasons I bought it was to be able to back up and restore easily. I have had all my paid for AD/VLD and LCI Taillight coding get wiped out back to factory and it was so nice to just upload a backup and restore.
