Map Updates (UK)
Has anyone with a G30 had an OTA map update? My car was built 2 months ago and came with the 2017-3 maps which I knew was already out of date, I was expecting some kind of OTA update but nothing has happened.
Tonight I got fed up (there's a new road nearby that I was hoping would be added) and decided to try and buy the USB updates for £69 but the BMW connected store tells me it's not currently available! Does anyone have a clue what's going on? Have you had your maps updates to -4 (or later?) or is there a problem with my car? :

It gets updated periodically online (impromptu) but with your permission. There was an update last week.

I had an update soon after picking up my car in July and I have since manually updated the car with a full update by downloading from the connected web site.( didn't have to pay though have free maps until 2020)

Shouldn't have to. My Ota upgrade just occurred whilst I was driving , just follow the prompts.
You can also go into your connected website and see if there is a later update and you can optionally choose to download it. You will need a 64GB usb drive for this. My understanding is that the OTA upgrades are for your own country ie uk as an example and the full updates from the usb drive cover a larger region ie west Europe. |

I got my G31 in October 2017. Around the end of November I got a message for an OTA update which, as far as I know, was successful (all UK G30/31s have OTA updates).
When I check the version now (Navigation Tile, Settings, Position and Version, Version Info) I get the following: Map Version Installed is: Europe, BMW Group 101164.3.211 Road Map Europe EVO 2017-2 NBTevo_L_172521 Automatic Map Update GB,IE 2017-3-R1 What I assume from this is that 2017-2 was loaded on the car initially and 2017-3 is from November's OTA update. Checking the available map version through the connected drive portal https://www.bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk...tal/map-update - In the Automatic Map Update section it shows region 3 (UK, Ireland) is selected. - In the manual map update section it says "A more current version of the map is available. Road Map EUROPE EVO 2017-4". I've checked that Automatic Map Update service (and the USB Map Update service) is booked. I would like to understand why this hasn't updated automatically. According to the info in the car the Nav system is updated 4 times a year. Can anyone help with this? Has anyone had 2017-4 updated applied OTA yet? |

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you strongly want the later update then get a 64gb usb drive and download it
It was the same for me where the update on the website was later than what I had on the car. I haven't had a Ota upgrade on my. Car for a while now. I don't know how and what triggers the Ota update. |

If I look at the services my car is subscribed to, I can see RTTI and CarPlay, for example, are included. Any idea how you got the USB downloads included? |

My understanding was that map updates were free via OTA whenever they automatically get sent through (4 x times a year apparently), alternatively what I did was download them and manually update them via a 64gb usb stick in the car (takes 15 mins or so).
Not sure why anyone is being charged for this - the process I followed was login via the ConnectedDrive portal, click on the Remote Cockpit button, the next screen should have three options along the top of the page, Status / Control / Map, click on "Control" Scroll down the next page and midway down is "Map Update" with a button that takes you to a download site where you can select manual download for either Windows or Mac. Follow the instructions......BTW the download takes a good amount of time! |

Ooops - edited the link to the right image.
Don’t get the £69 thing at all...there was no reference to that at all when I did it. The ConnectedDrive thing can be a bit of “black art” though.... |

I have a new (Dec 17) 520I G30. I like it and no faults at all. Yet.
I emailed the BMW connected drive team when I might expect an OTA map update. I was told my vehicle did not have this in writing and by phone Could I ask help from the forum? Surely this is incorrect? I thought all new BMWs had OTA. On my spec sheet dated July 2017 it says under option 609 which all uk cars get: OTA regional updates are free for 3 years, up to 4 times per year. It also states that worldwide map updates from the dealer are free for 3 years So what's happened to my car? Are the service agents wrong? Did someone not push the correct button in Graz to activate OTA? this may help to explain some of the differing experiences on this thread.. |

Yes I have AP and no mention of any map updates except would I like to buy 2 years worth on a USB for£69. I think connected drive services I spoke to are accurate. The bigger question is shouldn't I have at least OTA?

BMW Still advertises the OTA map updates so it's reasonable to expect them (it was certainly a consideration for me when I bought the car). See their webpage here: https://www.bmw.co.uk/help/technolog...o-media-system
"Please note: Over the air map updates are included – free of charge – for three years from time of production for all BMW vehicles fitted with the NBT Evo generation of the BMW Professional Media System."
