A few days ago, I was in a rush to get to a meeting while I had the low fuel warning on. Eventually, when I refilled the car, it took in 68.7ltrs although the tank is supposedly 67ltrs. I know fuels tanks, in general, are bigger than what manufacturers declare them to be. But this got me wondering what's the actual size is.
Anyone with similar experience? |

BMW data lists approx. 68 litres for gasoline, (66 litres diesel). It is not advised to squeeze in the maximum fuel possible.

This is for all you penny pinchers out there
Don't forget there is serious weight in 70 litres, or 12-13 gallons of fuel. So if you fill your tank to the filler cap you actually use a lot of fuel moving that fuel (weight) from A to B. If you can, you will be better off filling your tank with small amounts of fuel on a regular basis. Of course on long journeys this is not entirely feasible but if your driving in a city with plenty of fuel stations around and you get into the mindset, then over a year you should save some serious $$$'s or €€€'s. |

Still bugs me weight/ weight distribution or not why BMW can't put 20+ gallon tanks in these cars (like Audi/MB) to increase range by 10%....they do it for the M5, so one would think the 5er could get the bigger tank.

The most I have put in was 17.4 gallons and it was showing a range of about 20 miles left, so I'm guessing there was still about 1 gallon left in the tank.
