Problem Coding Auto Stop/Start

My 2021 M550 recently did an over the air software update to the latest version, so I needed to go back and re-apply my codings. I use BimmerCode with a ODBLink. My codings were applied except for Auto Stop/Start. I tried both the memory setting (which is what I've done in the past), and also disabling it. In either case, it doesn't work and Auto Stop/Start is enabled each time I start the car.

Anyone have a similar issue?

FYI, I got this back from BimmerCode support:

coding this option does not have any effect on the latest BMW software due to changes made by BMW. We are working on a solution, but unfortunately there is no quickfix available for this issue. As a workaround you could code the car to start in Sport mode or Sport Individual mode to keep the auto start stop function off.

Which ilevel are you using now?
I coded the start/stop memory in 22-11 and then upgrade ilevel to 23-03 and then 23-07, the settings still valid.

My 2023 550i works (after the 11/22 update) when I disable the auto start/stop. I do not use the second selection of the memory of the last selection, but just the disable the auto start/stop. Having said that, there are some other things that no longer seem to work as in the past. As an example, the passenger vented seat setting of remembering the last setting of Unlimited, doesn't work. Driver side is fine. I have also tried to code from a backup to no avail. I guess we will just have to be patient and wait for Bimmercode to catch up with the BMW software.

All my coding via BimmerCode was working fine until the car upgraded to 03/2023.53 last week. Now auto stop/start will not code, neither the memory setting or the disable setting will code. The update is probably country specific, hence why it might work for someone in Asia but not here in the US.

BimmerCode says they are working on a fix.

Just chiming in to say I'm also affected by this - Auto Start/Stop memory coding not working anymore. 2021 M550. Hopefully a workaround is found...

There’s quite a few threads about this, secure coding apparently where the car has to contact bmw to make a change, presumably why it’s not working now

Any functionality changes in 23/07? There didn’t seem to be anything of significance in 23/03 for idrive 7 .

I’ll be pleasantly surprised if there is and suspect that now bmw will probably just fix bugs rather than offer anything new for idrive 7

try Carly for coding that feature, for some reason some coding does not go in with Bimmmer code for my 2018 either

For what it's worth, xHP Flashtool also includes an option to disable auto start/stop. But I'm not sure if it works with the latest BMW software updates.

carbo56 I'm having the same issue on my 540i; for now just coded it to start in sport individual, which is NOT ideal; when did they tell you that they're working on a fix? I received an email quoting "...at the moment there is no fix available unfortunately."

In early July, they told me "We are working on a solution, but unfortunately there is no quickfix available for this issue." No update since then, not hopeful that this is fixable.

padresu I've never used Carly, are you saying that one would work for sure in the new update? Does that app also have its own auto start/stop coding?

Found this while starting to look into possibly coding out the Auto Stop feature on my 23 M550.

But after reading this thread, I'm getting the impression that since the latest update (03/2023.67) it's no longer possible to code things anymore? Did they change it so that code updates are only applied after validation via BMW servers?

What's the current state of owner coding?

My experience with BimmerCode is that the only coding that is not working since the 03/2023 update is auto stop/start. A work around is to code to start in Sport Individual (which disables auto s/s) and then just set the sport settings to anything you like, even turning them all to resemble comfort mode if that's what you prefer.

Based on WojCar's reply above, has anybody tried using another tool like eSys or Protool to code this? It's not clear from this thread whether the problem is restricted to Bimmercode.
Altertately, based on my earlier notes this appears to be part of the DME module. So would unlocking the DME with a tool like M-Link potentially work?

The coding issue seems to only affect vehicles that no longer have a physical ASS button. In this case, the M-Link wouldn't help anyway since it only works on 2020 and older vehicles.

FYI - the memory function of ASS works on both of my 2020 vehicles (540i and M340i) with either 03/2023 or 07/2023.

Got it, thanks! For the record, it also works on my 2020 M550i.

When did BMW remove the ASS button on the G30? I wasn't aware that they had. Was it part of the LCI update?

I think it was an LCI thing for many of their vehicles.

Yeh I think the only LCI that retained it was the 550 as it’s not a hybrid in anyway.( the battery is just used to start it!)

My 2023 530i x drive has ASS button right below the start button. After the 2023 update, I can no longer code ASS off and have resorted to the sport/individual workaround.

Danny
