AC

The AC isn't very effective. Not a big problem in this country but it could be for some folk.

Is that the maximum performance, or simply how it runs at the different intensity settings?

How's it compare to the F10/F11? Not as good?

All settings. Even on a warm Irish day of about 17C it struggled and failed to keep the cabin cool.

My A/C settings is set to 20 C and I rarely change the temperature up or down .Fan is at the lowest speed too as well as AUTO is on. It's however my car ,not a G30 as I have not picked it up yet , performs excellently and I must say the best A/C for the cars I have ever been into or driven and assuming a newer car is the G30 it must have been equipped a better performer given same settings

Yeah this sounds like an issue to me.

I have mine set at either 20 or 21 and I find it keeps the cabin cool. I even had to change the settings for the middle vent because I thought it was too cold. Definitely on par with my F10

That doesn't sound right for any A/C. You should be able to keep a cabin reasonably cool with lots of airflow, without A/C switched on at 17C ambient.

Full Auto at 17C ambient temperature, shouldn't have any issues with 'over cooling' the cabin.

Chuck,

I had similar concerns. Picked up my car last week.

I live in hot and humid Malaysia and air conditioning is extremely important.

I think I've managed to improve it by adjusting the vent and its direction.

Will report on soon.

Quite a few people in US reported that issue as well, on another forum.

Any idea if it is a fault, or how the system is set?

I recall we had similar comments of inefficiencies with the A/C on the E60. Many users didn't fully grasp how important it was to set up the climate control within iDrive.

Now that more of the function is back in the iDrive settings with the G30, compared to the F10, may be worth checking that it is set to cool efficiently. For example, ensure the 'electronic thumbwheel' (upper body air stratification) is set to the coldest position.

I have set the thumbwheel to the coolest setting. To be honest it's hard to tell the difference between the AC being on or off. You could live with it here in Ireland where we only get about three warm days per annum but I wouldn't be too happy if I lived in sunnier climes!

That appears strange.

What happens when you hit the 'MAX A/C' button? Face level vents should chill to something like 5 - 8C, at ambient temperatures we are likely to see this time of the year.

You get a good blast of air but it's not particularly cold.

I agree, the A/C in the G30 isn't anywhere near as good as the F10. I find myself using the "pre-conditioning" remote cooling function from the active key fob/ Connected drive app much more now. Seems to help in making the system cool down faster once you get the car started. Once the system is cooled, it seems fine, but it doesn't make it happen as fast as in F10. Just doesn't seem to be moving as much air.

I suspect the A/C is not working correctly, should be chilling the air after a minute or so.

What intensity setting are you using? Same level as in the F10?

No that's probably the most noticeable factor, I have to crank the new one up way more than I used to with the F10. I find myself hitting "MAX A/C" now when the car was in sun, and I don't think I ever did that with my F10 in three years.

That sounds strange...

My G30 A/C is far better than my F10 - cold within a minute on normal A/C and on MAX A/C, almost 15 seconds and it is freezing...

I find the temp overall is far more even and pleasant... what setting have you set for micro A/C (ie centre vents)... Mine is at centre and so far it is perfect

I think base climate probably makes a big starting point difference. SoCal vs London...

I currently own a 2016 X5 and am of the opinion that BMW AC is on the weaker side anyway. This is my second X5 and I have had a couple 535s and all have been fairly weak. Granted I live in Texas but when comparing to our Lexus GS (which has phenomenal AC) it makes me wish the Germans would consider warmer climates when designing their AC systems.

Not just warmer climes! I did a 4 hour drive today. It was about 16 degrees outside. I had the temperature on its lowest setting and the AC on. The intensity was in the middle setting. At the end of the journey my back was soaking. First time that's ever happened to me. Other than that the car was very good.

Maybe they're trying to push seat cooling here too.
