That lead to it not being a habit and when I was in one of our larger cities one night with my girl we walked out of a place later one evening and there was a little altercation going on - some words were exchanged and 3 dudes looked set to jump a guy who was with his girl. I remember driving home thinking - I'm not just carrying for me. We all think we are tough, but few people could fight off 3 assailants and what happens after that? Hopefully your girl picks you up and you go home, but it would leave 3 very amped up gentleman on the street with your vulnerable girl with no one to protect her. That scares me a LOT more than an ass beating.

I made it a point to start packing even when I'm just going to work and now it is just habit. I'm not a macho guy that needs to carry to feel tough and I hope I die with cobwebs in the barrel of my gun. But at least it'll give me a chance if I'm ever in that guys position - or worse.

Just bought my first AR! Radical Firearms. If anyone has any grips, optics, etc they recommend I’m all ears.

One thing for sure. You need optics or sights. Right now neither. LOL.

I've always favored something like a Trijicon ACOG. But I understand price might be a factor and they aren't cheap. But unless you want a bench rest shooter and trying to shoot one hole at 100 yards a red dot is the best all around IMO.

Bro don't feel like you need to make excuses on why/when to carry. I'm with you.

I carry when I go to Walmart I even carry when I maybe snapping some pictures of cars in abandoned parking lots/abandoned industrial parks, who knows who is lurking.

Same reason as a condom. Rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

In the industry I work in - you do see a lot of that though. I'm the guy that will let one tell me all about the hidden guns, mags, and knives on him without every telling him I am packing too. I don't care for those people and they paint us in a bad light.

I just wanted it to become a habit like picking up my wallet and I have that down. You have to ask yourself a lot of questions before you do though. You might have to escalate things faster than you would. I don't mind getting roughed up if need be, but when you are packing are you going to let someone swing on you and wind up rolling on the ground with someone where your gun can become exposed or worse yet - come loose?

I'd much rather take a butt kicking that kill someone, but when you carry you have to think a few steps ahead and ask yourself when it is time to unholster. Not a lot of takebacks in that world.

Like I said - I sure hope I never have to - but knowing it is there when you are with loved ones is a good feeling.

I put a 1-6x24 Vortex Razor Gen2-E on my AR because my rifle is a 3-gun/competition style build. Plus I live in NJ so I'm never aiming at anything more than 300 yards.

Look at some red dots, they can go from $150-300+. good sight to start with besides iron sights. Primary Arms makes some good ones.

I'm anal enough that I plan and log my builds. Looking back I now recall I got a super deal and paid $899 for the glass. Initially I did what you're saying above and put some Magpul MBUS iron sights. Look into those.

Also I like the LaRue A-Peg grip on this rifle. Perhaps not best for small hands, but fits my paws nicely.

My daily driver hybrid.

Very ugly. But it works. Easy to make fast accurate hits. Easy to carry with a 19 round spare. Close to my skin color in case my shirt gets lifted up by my infant. Lol

Your skin color is black and tan? You might want to see a doctor about that...

I lived in a small town of 4000 for five years and I recognized him from loitering in the area. I didn’t really care what he was doing but he had no business there. He studdered something like, no man and proceeded to walk down my driveway to the street. My other neighbor was a retired State Trooper and offered to teach me to shoot. Like a good scout, I am better prepared now.

Reflex sight and vertical grip added. The sight is sick, it has a quick attach feature so the install took 10 seconds. Can switch between red or green, and 4 different reticle styles.

That vertical grip makes it seem like you have very long arms.

I had it a little closer previously but the screws on the picatinny rail were hitting the barrel. Also, it fits my absolutely brolic figure.

Can't have anything touching the barrel.

If you want some more cool stuff to add that'll help with functionality I'd suggest an extended charging handle latch, so you can rack it with one hand. The magpul BAD lever also makes things a bit easier.

Interesting, just checked it out. So basically it allows you to drop the bolt without having to use your support hand. My builds going to end up looking like Dog Face Pony Soldier by the end of this
