Snow Tires & Winter Wheels?

For a 2017 G30 530ix M-Sport w/19" wheels.

Any experience or suggestions for a set of winter wheels and snow tires?

Thank you.

Depends, ideally a 19" squared setup would work best for winter rubber. With that said, nothing wrong with staggering, as long as you purchase a quality set of winter tires you will be fine. I will be running the Michelin Pilot Alpin rubber on my 20" 759s come this winter.

Both my previous (18" 662) and current (19") G30 M package Xdrives were fitted with Pirelli SottoZero runflat tires by the dealer upon delivery. Both cars had wider wheels at the rear, which narrowed down the selection to Pirelli only.

I am/was very satisfied with the Pirellis both in deep snow and in dry surfaces.

Other than price, are there any advantages of running 18" winter tyres on my 540xi?

Narrower tires have better grip in snow. Snowchains are also cheaper for smaller wheels.

I purchased a 19" square setup with Pirelli Sottozeros for my 2018 M550, and I continue to use them now with my 2021 M550. I've used them for four seasons and I've been happy with the performance although I rarely ever drive on snow-covered roads. However, I've had issues with the Sottozeros developing bubbles and I've had to replace tires in each of the first three seasons (lucky that I had tire insurance on the 2018). I made it through ok last year, although I drove less due to COVID.
