I let my 540i go this summer (lease swap) after I got my M4 because the latter is so awesome, I decided that I didn't need it.

After a few months of having only one car, I'm getting the itch for a second one. I've always had two (or more) cars. It's convenient.

I've been shopping Alpina B7s, but for the cost of a used out-of-warranty B7 I can get a new M550i, which is just as fast, almost as comfortable and will actually fit in my garage.

There are few cars local to me (3 hours away) and not my first color choices anyway, so I was toying with the idea of ordering one. What are we seeing these days, allocation-wise? I know things are tight, but it does tend to vary between models. A broker I contacted claims that he can get an allocation next month for January delivery, but I know that's a bogus timeframe for an order.

I noticed on the BMW configurator that some options are no longer available.

Yeh ordering any new car now risks some options not being available . Some may be retrofittable at a later date potentially , either way you may not get or be able to order exactly what you want.

If you're looking at a M550i some of the options not showing on the configurator can be ordered. Such as Parking Assist. Discuss with your dealer.
