A g20 30i owner on our whatsapp group was running around 27psi (hybrid turbo) when he cracked a piston
This was with WMI on straight methanol and E50 in the tank Was roughly mid 400s crank on his street tune and in the 500s when running@35psi Hard to tell whether it was the high boost high output that did the damage or the extended use in "street" trim that did the damage Both obviously contributed to the failure |

Knifeedge2k1 how long was he running that setup before it blew? I'm set for an upgraded turbo in the near future but this is my daily so don't want to push it to the point of breaking things.
I was planning to go E50 as well whenever I pull the trigger, think it was the race tune that did it or his street tune? I was looking forward to 360-380whp for some fun mixed into commuting without worrying about internals. |

For things like this you can't say it was one of the other because both intensity as well as duration of stress contribute to these things. If I had to guess though I'd say the race tube did the bulk of the damage. That's not too say the street tune wouldn't have resulted in a failure down the line anyways so if you're concerned about longevity and reliability, take things slowly. Do oil analysis and keep an eye on oil consumption and ramp up the power slowly over multiple revisions. |
