Personal preference. I like BMW nav.

Waze is available with Carplay if you jailbreak phone.

Google Map is excellent in detecting traffic and detouring followed by BMW Nav. It is the integration of BMW NAV into HUD that makes it unbeatable

+1. The HUD view is so, so much better than the video screen view.

So intuitive and RTTI has saved me countless hours from being stuck on the M25

Garage List
I have not used apple maps in the car as I prefer how the bmw maps are displayed, and like others, think the heads up nav is very good. As for traffic, my wife has run Waze on her phone while BMW maps were running in the cap, and they are comparable. The BMW system (G12) is way better than the one I had in my F10, and is generally trustworthy on traffic. Either requires using some judgment as they are "binary" in the sense that they will often select a complicated alternate route if it saves just a few minutes. Sometimes being on a familiar route is less of a hassle, and if you know your local area, you will surely be smarter than any of these systems.

I've read that BMW Nav will only re route you if the time savings will be more than 6 minutes, so unlike Waze, it won't take you on crazy routes to save 2 minutes.

I live in LA and tested a bunch of times...open Waze at start of my journey and look at ETA, then shut waze off and use BMW routing. BMW does tend to get me there around the same time that Waze predicted.

One thing that BMW Nav is not good at is ETA...it keeps updating as the journey progresses, but at the start, this morning it said I'd be at work at 9:30, waze said 9:46...used BMW Nav's directions and got to the office at 9:45

I've run Waze and BMW Nav (with RTTI) side by side for a few months in an F10 recently in the UK as I'd asked myself this same question. Waze is definitely better in built-up urban areas, they are about the same on the motorway and open road in my experience.

Newer Android phones like the Pixel 2 don't support Miracast unless they are rooted => No screen mirroring.

My Pixel XL does. I thought Pixel 2 did as well.

Samsung does.

From Wikipedia

Miracast support was built into Android with version 4.2 and starting with Android 4.4, devices could be certified to the Wi-Fi Alliance Display Specification as Miracast compatible. Support was dropped again with Android 6.0 Marshmallow in 2015, in favor of Google's own Google Cast protocol.

My Samsung's work when stationary (screen cast), but when you drive off it stops... I think because BMW don't want you watching videos while you drive...

I did try and cast Sygic and Waze to my screen - same problem, disappears when you move (G30 Full Navi Pro)

Correct. You need video in motion coded.

Waze is better because it tells you where speed traps are. Priceless. It is the number one reason I still use it. But in urban areas where 3D buildings are available in the BMW screen, the BMW Nav is priceless.
