My MY 2021 M550ix Build & Performance Center Delivery
I just received my new production number for my MY 2021 M550i, and thought I'd start this thread to document the production and transport, then performance center delivery for anyone that's interested, particularly as BMW restarts production.
My advisor told me that his dealership group lost more than 200 vehicle build allocations overall, and that BMW's plan is to finish vehicles in production, then work all sold orders prior to producing cars for inventory. I ordered the car back in February, and it was supposed to be a MY 2020 with a production start in roughly mid-April. The options post LCI don't track exactly with the MY 2020 options, and right now BMW appears to be updating the system to ensure that my car will have all the options I ordered. I'm staying in touch with my client advisor and he's working to get me all the information he has available. I'm looking forward to some of the new standard features - ceramic controls (a $600 option in MY 2020), LED lights, the Android Auto compatibility (new), the larger center display (12.2 vice 10ish), the drive recorder (new - looking forward to the tech docs on this to understand what BMW is doing with the information), and best of all - remote engine start! My build should (why I say 'should' later on) include the following options: Black Sapphire Metallic paint Black Nappa Leather w/contrast stitching Driving assistance plus package Parking assistance package Premium package Executive package Heated steering wheel Front massaging seats Front ventilated seats Front and rear heated seats Grey Poplar wood trim Rear seat entertainment professional* Night vision w/pedestrian detection* Soft close automatic doors* The three items tagged with the asterisk (*) are not showing up in my build yet in the My Garage area of the MyBMW website. My client advisor is aware of this and is working the issue. The options in MY 2020 don't exactly track with the options listed in the LCI press release issued Tuesday night, so as the LCI roll-out continues and is firmed up, these three discrepancies will get rectified (one way or the other). So the process is started, and let's see how it plays out.

Yes I did - that's where all the information in the graphics comes from. The expected production week is 27, so that should be the third or fourth week in June.

Same with my dealer. Disorganized rollout. They had plenty of time during the Pandemic to get this right.

My dealer alone reported 200 plus cancelled allocations across three dealerships with a common owner - I'm sure the total number of cancelled orders across the U.S. alone easily runs into the thousands. Even if you only use a loss of 150 orders per 3 dealerships, with 341 dealerships total in the U.S., that's ~17,000 orders that need to back filled. I'm honestly surprised my car will be built as early as the end of June.

Scheduled for Production
As of this morning, the car is now showing as "Scheduled for Production".
I've asked my client advisor for an update on the still missing options: the soft close doors (which should be part of either the executive or premium packages), rear seat entertainment, and night vision systems. They are not showing up in the on-line system yet.

Based on what I see in the press release for the LCI, and the U.S. ordering guide for MY 2020, it looks like there are no changes. I just received the build sheet for the car from my client advisor (who is still working the three missing options). The Driving Assistance Plus Package (ZDB) now lists the Extended Traffic Jam Assistant (5AR) and the Active Driving Assistant Pro (5AU) as separate items. On the original build sheet I received for the 2020 MY car, the Driving Assistance Plus Package only listed the Active Driving Assistant (under code 5AT) as an individual item, with the internet enabled Extended Traffic Jam Assistant covered under the included as standard for four years Connected Package Pro telematics.

My advisor hasn't even mentioned a need to re-negotiate the deal, and I'm not expecting him to - BMW was offering a number of incentives back in February, and I'm a veteran using USAA's car buying program to get a good price below MSRP, and I feel I am. Based on the very limited increase in the MSRP for some of the options I picked ($600 is minor in my view for a car at this price level), and the others not increasing at all, I'm not expecting the 2021 MSRP cost for the night vision or the rear seat entertainment to increase very much. I'm guessing at most, the MSRP for the 2021 version of the car will be ~$1,000 more. Hope this helps.

Here's a quick summary of the 2021 MSRP for the M550i and the options I ordered from my build sheet.
I didn't get all the options, so it's not comprehensive. Some of the options don't match exactly with the 2020 MY. For example, the ventilated and massaging seats were a package before, and now they are separate items. (Read: Option Code, Description, and MSRP) 215Q M550i xDrive Sedan: $76,800 LZFK Nappa Leather: $1,000 ZDB Driving Assistance Plus Package: $1,700 ZPK Parking Assistance Package: $800 ZPX Executive Package: $2,150 248 Heated Steering Wheel: $190 453 Front Ventilated Seats: $500 4HA Front and Rear Heated Seats: $350 4T7 Front Massaging Seats: $1,000

Well, I had an e-mail from my CA today.
BMW is not offering on the 2021 MY of the M550ix the soft close doors, night vision system, or the rear seat entertainment options. I'm reviewing my options now with him and I'll post an updated build list as soon as BMW's 'My Garage' website reflects my picks.

Yes. My CA told me that those items, according to BMW, were "...very low take items" and were deleted for the LCI.

I'm not aware of the laser lights being standard or an option. My car will be outfitted with the adaptive LED lights, which is a standard item according to the build sheet.

So I'm investing that portion of my option money in some of the other available options.

Interesting, I spec mine *2019 with executive which included soft close (though had it not included in executive I probably would have skipped to be honest)...
Edit: and the only thing I wished the they offered was 4 zone climate and automatic side rolling shade like 7 series (rather than manual) |

New Configuration for my MY 2021 M550ix
Here are the screen grabs of the updated configuration for my car after BMW choose to delete the soft close doors, night vision, and rear seat entertainment options as part of the LCI.
Hope you find them informative.
