Oh I caught that. Touche, I deserve it for criticising another man's wood.
I also edited and added to mine after you quoted it with some context and excuses for my wood oversight.

Update: Insurance came up with a valuation much lower then I will accept. Its funny because the adjuster spit balled a number, before doing any research, while we were on the phone to tell me the car was totaled and guess what? it was $38 more then his valuation.
Anyways, I think I have some good talking point on why I think its worth more. The multi-point inspection video should help with the certified tech under the vehicle stating everything was in excellent condition where they have it as "average" condition. Anybody have any advice? This is my first time going through this process. |

They may want actual sales vs. advertisements. You should be able to get those off auction type sites that show the selling amount. The more research, paper and PDF's you have the better. Also printout or PDF the cost of CPO. Generally one year is $2500, two $4,000, three $5500. You need to prove actual market value. They will simply use the lowest KBB value that can find. If you come to terms on that Florida car, that will be golden. Have them put together a P&S that you can send to the adjuster.

A Bernina gray M550i with the bowers and Wilkins Soundsystem. Pretty nice. The Bernina gray is striking in person. It looks different depending on what time of day it is, how much sun is shining on it etc. Home run

Yeah I love the Bernina Grey. Really want to consider the one I posted but I don’t know if it’s going to be in my budget. We’ll see. I don’t really have a budget as a single man but I’m just trying to be responsible.
Right now I’m about $2.5k off in cash value with insurance and I will be eating $1.85k in dealer fees from what I’m seeing so going to be out about $4.5k on this 2.5 months of ownership. Not the end of the world but annoys me. If I walked away even I would jump on that Bernina 550 I posted. |

100%. I bought my car from out of state despite numerous dealerships in FL because the BS fees. But $1.85K in dealer fees is not that bad, although it could be half that elsewhere.

I’d have to go look but I think I paid like $500 total in fees. Maybe less.

After you settle on a value for your car with the insurance company, make sure they add on the sales tax rate for your state.
For example, in Ohio, it’s the regular sales tax rate (6.75% in my county) so that’d be $2600 on a $40,000 car value. It’s something you’ll have to pay to put that $40,000 car back in your driveway… In my experience, they’ve rarely offered it up front but when I mention it, they say “of course”! |

So I ended up taking about 2.5k loss in after everything was said and done. My loss came from the dealer fees. The dealership I bought the vehicle from is notorious for having some of the highest dealer fees in the country. Since all of this took place I have yet to replace the vehicle. For those not aware I work away from home, my schedule is 28 days at work followed by 28 days of vacation. I have been traveling the world since all of this went down and have been in no rush to replace the 540 since I still have my old 2007 Honda Accord. I posted a link in this thread to a vehicle that was sold at the local Mercedes Dealership, it was a 2021 M550 with the Bowers Audio System and unfortunately the vehicle sold before I could get to it. That car was going to be my replacement. I recently decided that moving forward I am going to just get myself an older truck for the time being. My girlfriend is a resident of Romania and cannot afford to travel over here all the time so that puts the burden of traveling on me. Until we figure things out and whether she is going to come to the US or me move over to Europe I didn't see any reason to spend $60k+ to buy the M550 for it to only sit in the driveway (no garage) and possibly get struck by lightning again LOLOLOL. *I still don't 100 percent believe it was struck by lightning. I do continue to check bmwusa from time to time to find myself a 550 because I will be buying one at some point. Initially I wouldn't budge on the Bernina Grey as I love that color but as time goes on im more open to just getting the best possible deal on a 2021-2022. As time goes by though and my spending account grows I may find myself falling into the M5 category. I would be lying if I told you I wasn't building it in preparation of a possible M5 Touring I appreciate everyone who took the time to post in this thread and specifically Joe who has been like a father figure to myself during this process who was always very quick to contribute and keep this discussion going. Love you guys and plan on getting back into posting on the forum as I've been on a little hiatus recently. Just got back from Mexico. I use to have a 2006 fully loaded Dodge RAM SRT10. For whatever reason, Mexico has made me miss that truck. (Truck was built in Mexico). Miss driving a manual transmission. Im rambling now..... Happy Holidays to you all! and please feel free to PM me any vehicles that you think I may be interested in. Current budget is at $88k and growing. |

Thanks for the update. 88k is a healthy budget even for a nicely equipped new M550i! But I see you are saving up for an M5. Sounds like you have a plan. Best of luck and Happy Holidays.
