N63 coolant leak
I recently had my BMW in for repair as I was experiencing issues with both coolant and oil. The garage took several weeks to replace the oil-to-cooler heater exchange and a few other parts. However, upon cleaning my car today, I noticed a few concerning things:
1. There appears to be evidence of a coolant leak under the bonnet. 2. One of the covers has broken clips, causing it to vibrate. This seems like poor workmanship. 3. The front end of the car doesn’t look quite right to me, and I’m wondering if something might be missing. 4. The front coolant well is about 3 cm above the maximum, and the rear coolant is well below the minimum level. Considering my car was only at the BMW garage 250 miles ago and is only 18 months and 12,000 miles old, should I be concerned about these issues? Any guidance on how to approach this with the service center, or if these are common issues post-service, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your insights! |

Looks to me as though the (am not familiar with the V8 tank layout) radiator? coolant tank caps leaking, not unusual. I would email pics & call the MD that did the job & ask them to sort it, from the pics is does just look like a leaking cap, unfortunately shit happens. I wouldn’t be driving it that far though.

Mine did the same thing.
Replaced the cap, good to go. My local BMW had it on hand in parts. It was less than $20.

I was told that BMW had replaced over 50 parts as part of the oil-to-cooler exchange fix, you would expect something so trivial to have been addressed. |

After I changed my cap, I had no more leaks. That's something I'm confident telling you. By the way, it failed at 10k miles. Which is ridiculous.

Before ordering anything, try greasing the threads on the coolant cap. This can take care of a cap leak.

That leak could be the tank, lines, radiator, or water pump. I would just take it back to the dealer and have them locate the leak. Coolant system leak appears to be a common issue for G30.

N63s seem to be the most prolific of the coolant-leakers.
A shame. I thought the latest TU had finally made the engine reliable. I still advocate for removing the engine cover. My theory is that it is largely there to melt plastic and increase garage revenues. |
