3D surround view retrofit

Iím looking at retrofitting the 3D surround View on top of Parking Assistant. Does anyone know what it would require and estimates of cost?

Are you sure you want to do it ? I was absolutely sure i want it, however after having this feature i consider it pretty useless and wasted money. maybe nice gimmick to show off , however during parking when auto switching is on cameras are changing between themselves for me in not logical manner (eg. you want to park backwards, but because your front is close to column you watch that one even you're on reverse), also i thought i will be able see curbs in real detail which is not the case at all as a matter of fact you are not able to use it to park millimeters close at all. Manual changing camera is so slow and uncomfortable that at the end i switched all off and using rear camera with mirrors only for more then a year now.

DTom, thanks for sharing your experience. I actually wanted it for parking in tight spaces, e.g. for seeing when I am inside my garage enough to get the garage door closed and similar.
Based on your experience it sounds like 360 SUrround would not deliver that for me.

I think it'll help for your purposes. Have a look at the attached photos that I just took. You can rotate it onscreen to see all the angles.

Thanks Ads-UK, the pics clarifies, maybe it would be worthwhile to retrofit the package.
The big question is how much if will cost me. Seems like there’s no experiences on the forum of retrofitting it.

Easiest would be to sell the car and order a new one with the 3D surround from factory.

You can buy the retrofit cableharness from BMW.
The you need the 4 cameras, front camera, rear camera and you need r and l mirrors with camera, and you need the camera module too.
And you need it to be coded.
The wireharness goes from the rear to the front and the 2 door colums, and to the camera module.

Is there some sort of wire route plans available? If I'm doing this retrofit I just want wiring to be on factory routes not randomly.

I don't use it for side clearance. I just fold my mirrors before pulling into the garage. Also, since it is the same garage every time, I get to know what line to use to clear the side.

On the other hand, the front camera can be useful for not hitting parking stops, etc. I use that one a lot.

The retrofit would be expensive, especially having to replace the side mirrors. You might consider just the front mirror.

I would love to add the additional front camera (hate parking blocks)!but I didn't think there was a official retrofit kit for this like the harness. There is a official retrofit kit for adding a backup camera.

I find it very useful (probably because I park like crap), though would appreciate if they add high resolution curb view as well

Also 360 camera is definitely not slow, it's very quick

I'd love to retrofit the 3D surround. Do any of my current installed packages make this project easier? My 530e Sportline, already has installed the Driving assistant Package, Driving assistant package plus, Rear View camera, Park Distance Control. There is more, but I think these are the most relevant to this project.

Projects questions:
1: Is the module for the rear view camera all I need and I plug the other 3 cameras into it? Or will that be replaced?

2: Where is the module for the rear view camera? or the 3d camera located in the car?

3: Where can I order the parts required? Links? Seems like, from earlier posts here, I need 3 more camera, and the wire harness for the side cameras and the front camera.

4: What do people think about the NON BMW 3D offerings, found on Ebay? I imagine those won't work with gesturing....

5: Does anyone have links to videos or DYI instructions for anything related to this project that will help!

Thanks!

1.Mine had the same factory fitted as yours but still you need a different camera module for 3D surround view

2.under the steering wheel/dash board, somewhere down there as i observed during installation

3. mine retrofit guys said get it from Germany, camera module was not brand new but used, and also need to replace the entire rear view mirror module that come with the cameras, also the switch at the central console

4. Not sure but most likely not compatible to idrive

& 5. no sources

Follow up question to Vinch9292

Thanks Vinch9292. your information is great! It makes me feel that this is possible. 1: Does the retrofit you did for your car work with the hand gestures?

2: Did they need to "code" the BMW after they were done?

3: How much did it cost you to do it?

4: What is the name of the shop that retrofit your car? Where are they located?

Thanks!
