Cracked shifter - cost to repair ?

Looking at a used m550i. The interior is flawless except for a broken shifter - the glass face is all cracked. The shifter works and everything functions - it just appears to be cosmetic.

I believe this is a relatively easy and cheap fix - I found a part that appears to cost about $150 and will fix it.

Am I correct ?

Is the car being sold by an individual or a dealer? You should require that this be replaced before you buy it or the price reduced buy the cost to properly repair/replace it. It's surprising that someone would try to sell the car like this. Good luck.

Based on the condition of the paint in your other post and the cracked shifter, I would say you are looking at the wrong car. This looks like a car that has been ridden hard and put away wet, regardless of the miles showing. A cheap purchase prices does not always result in a cheap car and in fact they are often the most expensive in the long run. This car reminds me of the cars often purchased by independent "luxury" used car dealers from the flashing-yellow-light lane at the auctions, a car that requires seller disclosures but which disclosures rarely make it to the consumer. I would suggest continuing your search. --Bob

I'm just seeing both of your threads on this car. My opinion is that I would stay away from it, even w low miles, it's had a hard life. Very poorly maintained and "beaten up" for a fairly new car. I would look elsewhere for a better maintained example, even if it has a few more miles.
