steering wheel Roundel - removable??
On my 2018 M550 the Roundell on my steering wheel has a small dent. It’s not terrible. Most people would never see it but I want to fix it.
I have seen aftermarket, Roundell kits available for the hood, the trunk, as well as the steering wheel on our cars. I am wondering if the Roundell can simply be removed and popped off and if it’s only held on with adhesive or if it is a more involved process to replace it?? I know the airbag is underneath it inside the steering wheel so if it requires airbag removal and major expense, I’m just going to leave it if it’s literally an adhesive that pops off I will replace anyone successfully remove or replace the Roundell the steering wheel??

It's part of the airbag system, not as simple as replacing the hood and trunk roundels. You basically need to replace the horn pad and bag under it.

Ditto ^^^ The steering wheel Roundel is attached or anchored so that if the air bag is deployed...it won't become a flying target toward your head/neck/chest.
Even though you can find peel-n-stick Roundels that are the size of the steering wheel's...I would highly recommend NOT to use them because again, if the air bag was to deploy (usually around 200 MHP)...the adhesive may not be strong enough to prevent it from separating from the original. If you were going to use a peel-n-stick alternative...I would look for a foil type label. A foil replacement label would probably withstand the force of a deploying air bag. BTW, if you look at the history of BMW wheels...you'll see that prior to airbags, the wheels contained a Roundel badge. Then when air bags first debut (early 1990s), the Roundel badges went away and an embossed Roundel appeared. Then around the 1995 model year, BMW returned the Roundel badge to the steering wheel after R&D developed a way to anchor the steering wheel Roundel badge. 1980 BMW steering wheel (pre air-bag) with Roundel emblem: 1990 BMW steering wheel (1st generation air-bag)...no emblem but BMW is embossed acrossed the air-bag: 1995 BMW steering wheel (2nd generation air-bag) BMW Roundel returns:

There's always this option:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/28496844857...Bk9SR77z6P20YQ In my old F10, I actually transplanted the old airbag from a base steering wheel into a new sport steering wheel. The new wheel came with a single-stage and I needed the US-spec dual-stage. It was pretty easy and I documented it on the F10 forums. |

I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to change the emblem without replacing that entire airbag cover. I’ll have to price it out but the dentist so small it’s probably not worth fixing if it’s going to be that much of a pain in the rear end.

Not really a pain and not even that hard. The covers can be had relatively inexpensively on ebay.
