I’ve read so many complaints on here regarding run flats…that they suck…you are right, they do suck. 6000 miles on these Pirelli’s. Need to replace both fronts.

The passenger side is doing all kinds of weird crap and the driver side has a very slight bubble. I’m sure glad I bought the wheel and tire insurance… I have a feeling I’m going to be using it a lot.

Same tires and I also had a bubble on a front tire after a few months. I don’t have T&W insurance but the tire warranty covered the replacement. I just had to pay labor.

That’s rather bad luck. Are you running them at those ridiculously high American tire pressures?

Low profile tires will struggle in pot hole situations. Just the nature of them. The less meat on the tire the easier it is to be damaged by road hazards. That’s not a run flat issue.

That is crazy!… same tire…perhaps there’s an issue Pirelli!!?? I have to make an appointment for next week. Maybe I can get a new set every year. I didn’t look at the back tires yet, I’ll check tomorrow morning

Perhaps. I just went with them because the dealer had them, I needed tires badly (I told the seller to pay to ship it and I’d buy my own tires), and I knew I didn’t want the Goodyear Eagle Sport AS again. The Pirellis are much better, I think.

I’d like to try some Michelins. Next time I should have more lead time to find what I really want.

I hear what you’re saying and there’s some truth to that, but every car that I’ve owned for the past 20 years has been low profile. I never had this issue before. My Viper has a hair over 2 inches of profile, no problems… i’ve hit potholes with it… you can’t avoid them in New England.

I’m Sticking to my guns and blaming the run flats. I never had this happen to any non runflat tire, but we have here two bubbled runflat tires with only 6000 miles on them. That can’t be ignored.

I think the construction of the sidewall makes the runflat more prone to bubble.

Yes, and I do agree this makes a bad situation worse.

I had no issues with the Pirelli P7 rf’s on the rear of the G31 & tbf when I changed the tyres the front Primacy 3’s were pretty fucked with 2mm left but the P7’s were in good shape & still had 5mm of tread across the tyre width, same as when I bought the G31 14 months & around 4,500 miles ago, I could have just put a pair of P7 fronts on for less than half the PS ZP’s cost but….I just wanted the PS ZP’s

Hell, my pressures were lower when mine bubbled.

My 530i came with 19” Bridgestone RFTs and have never had any bubbling issues in years of driving this car. Fronts are set to 34 PSI and rears 41 PSI (Cold)

I also have not had an issue with Michelin ROF's over 100K miles on 2 F10's and a G30. I have read that Pirelli's are the worst ROF's, with Crapyear a close second.

How did you get away with that without getting the chronic annoying “check your tire pressure at your convenience” warning?

They were within the tolerance band I guess but they were probably 7ish psi lower than the car recommends. I go by whatever idrive tells me. In my experience, most cars start to ping you when it falls under 30 psi. They were probably right at that.

I’ve never had issues with the OEM run flats per se, but I’ve never run them long term other than on our X3. Always switched my car to non run flat Michelins and never regretted it. Other than the occasional nail in the tread, never had problems. I did order my G30 with the factory spare option (only $350!) but never used it in 5 years.

I guess I’m recommending moving to non rft and enjoy the benefits of proper tires.

I am no tire expert in this regard, but my F1s have been really good since putting the pressures down to 2 bar (30ish PSI) all around (as Goodyear recommends) on my 19".

They stick much better and the car oddly has less body roll, too. Not saying this is the case for all of the runflats, but I actually like the F1s now.
