This would be my first ever bmw and I am going to pick it up this coming Friday, almost everyone I grew up with had one so I had to see what their all about... but on a real note I will be on this forum 24/7 asking for help and advice lmaoo.

I did my research on the gen 1 b58 and im nothing but stuck on it only thing I was worried about the cooling mods for the 540i or g30. There ain’t many company’s that offer the same cooling for the 540ix as other b58 models, and my question for that is would those models cooling mods like a front heat exchanger, trans oil cooler fit on the 540ix? (I was looking at the CSF 4 piece cooling package)

I was going to build the car reliable than go onto to the performance mods. I was looking at starting by buying VRSF High-Flow Downpipes, FTP Charge Pipe Intake Combo, MST Air Intake, VS Catch Can, BN Ignition Coils, Dorsh Stage 2 HPFP, SP Stage 3 lower fuel pump, and RK Port Injection Manifold paired with the Reflex+ Flex Fuel Kit for e85, than with the performance mods I was going to go with a Pure 850, rebuilt trans, M Performance Breaks, MHD Flash, NOS and I’m going to go to a local BMW shop for tuning and diagnostics. My end goal pretty much is to have a grudge racing 540ix that reliably push 650-700 whp or even more later down the road!

If there’s better ways to make that type of power and to run reliably for cheaper or just better in general please give me some advice on what you think I’m willing to soak up any type of b58 knowledge, ik it will come in handy.. on the other hand I’m ready to be part of the family!

Have you considered going for a m550 and some sort of tune? You can probably get close to that power level far easier and with less mods.

If you have not bought yet, you should consider getting some kind of pre-purchase inspection. Car looks lowered (a mod often done half-assedly, both in terms of components and the working range of the suspension geometry) and a few of the other cosmetic items are potential red flags with regard to the previous owner.

These cars aren't cheap to fix, so if I were going to go deep into modding, I would definitely want a clean stock car to start with--as I (you) would know everything done to it.

Good luck.

Yea I already went through the process with the dealer. I did notice that it was lowered when I was looking at it so I asked the dealer and he said when he got it, it was completely stock besides the last owner adding black m sport rims with h&r sport springs.

when I was looking through the engine bay everything looked stock to my eye atleast from all the videos and forums Ive seen, I test drove it and it was really smooth in my opinion.

Thanks for the advice boss man, do you think I should call the dealer in the morning for the inspection before I pick it up or just go to a local shop afterwards?

I was looking at m550’s but there wasn’t anything local that was in my price range with lower miles and I already put a deposit down for the 540i.

Definitely will upgrade to the m550 or m5 though when my money is right.

I'd get it checked. I never buy cars outside of the networked dealers, unless I know the owner, as it is easy to get scammed.

Since this dealer has already done something rather questionable (tossing on cheap superficial mods like lowering springs and flashier cosmetics), you really should be sure you have the best possible overview of what you are buying.

It's a lot of money.

This car has a salvage title and was involved in a serious collision. I would be very concerned about modding a previously totaled car.

Ok, I’ll say it. Run, don’t walk, away from this car. You’re most likely enticed by an attractive price but there are red flags here. I wouldn’t touch it with so many other good G30 540i’s out there without the salvage title.

I should’ve posted this before I went through with the down payment, I was looking at the service records and I found that it might be a possibility of title washing going on with this car. At this point I’m hella sketched, I was supposed to pick it up Friday but he called and said there was computer problems and he will have a tech go thru with it Monday.. so now I’m even more sketched out smh. I’m considering demanding a refund for the problems I had so far and the possibility of the title washing. I’m not to sure what todo I might’ve just fu***d over myself🤦🏽‍♂️

I agree with you , I should’ve thought this through more. He came back and said there are computer problems the day I was coming up to get it and would be ready next week lol… now I feel as I’m going to be fucked over. If you have any type advice that I can use to get away from this headache it would be much appreciated bro🤦🏽‍♂️.

Same here. As already mentioned too many red flags unfortunately. I saw this car on Car Gurus. The salvage title was listed, two accidents reported and three previous owners in 32k miles.

Don't pickup the car and tell the dealer you have a change of mind. No final papers were signed. You should be able to get your refund. For the mods you want to do, you can find a nice G30 with NO issues.

Get your refund back ASAP. If $20k is your budget and it sounds like this car is attractive to you because of the price, do yourself a favor and get a nice Honda Accord or Toyota Camry a few years old with a warranty. BMW's require an annual maintenance/repair budget that you probably are not considering.

In addition to the salvage title, accidents and aftermarket bumper - this thing is pretty stripped - Dakota (driver's seat looks like some fat ass has been driving it), base HiFi, no intelligent driving options.

Joe pointed out the different front bumper, which to me looks like an M5 conversion. The M5 doesn't have fog/driving lights and I would bet good money that the "computer problem" is a fog/driving light error that would need to be coded-out. I'll bet the seller has no idea about coding.

Keep us advised! In the future, run any potential purchase by us. We'll set you straight!

Yeah that’s what I said when I bought my 2018 540i a couple years ago.

12 months later I was fully engulfed in the search for the perfect 2020 M550.

15 months after I bought my 2018 540, I sold it to my local dealer and bought a 2020 M550 from a Benz dealer 800 miles away.

We’ll see if you can last longer than I did!

If I demand a refund I’m not to sure how that would go considering I fell into this g30. Personally driving it was perfect but this “computer problem” through me off,

how would you go about the refund if you was in my shoes? Also if I am able to get my refund or not, I might look around for a another g30 but I lokey just don’t know how many miles is considered safe to mod… All I know is that the b58 is like that off the line and type reliable compared to other bmw engines after doing the research & I need it in my life😔if you got any advice please let me hear it

I lokey wanna consider a refund with the dealer but I wanna hear what he has to say about the “computer problem” and I was wondering if he was legally obligated to state what the problems was or can he just lie if he wanted too?

He’s giving me a call tomorrow to give me the update on what happened , what are some red flags I should look out for when talking to him over the phone? I asked him if he could ask the tech exactly what the problem was and he left me on delivered until a hour or so later and said he was talking with a customer and just wanted to call me tomorrow about the issue.

If it’s some bs how should I go get this refund? I payed with card 7 days ago.

You can dispute the charge with the cc company; or have the cc company stop the payment. I would tell them the seller tried to sell you the car under false pretenses.
