It's just a pain to find it, I just took delivery today and I added that option. I believe it was $400 upgrade

In US its part of the cold weather package.

What they did discontinue for the US is rear A/C controls. You just get the vent control, nothing else.

When I did the online configurator, I had to add the heated steering wheel (248 option) in order to "unlock" the front & rear heated seats 4HA option. Then when you choose the front & rear heated seats, it will tell you that it's removing the front heated seats (the stand-alone option).

When ordering the car at the dealership and manually plugging in the numbers, I did the same thing above but then removed the 248 option so I just got front & rear heated seats. The Cold Weather package consists of both front & rear heated seats and the heated steering wheel.

So is this a current glitch dealers are aware of currently?

Sounds insane you had to do that to get it right

Does anyone know if the rear heated seats can be added after delivery? Trevster's post (second post in this thread) sounds like he took delivery and upgraded for $400.

I am in the US. I had ordered a 540i xdrive from my dealer and we built the car using the online configurator. I looked at every option. There was no option for rear heated seats, and the cold weather package is no longer available. I chose the premium package (which has front heated seats). I took delivery 2 weeks ago. Then, after seeing this thread, I learned how to "unlock" the option for rear heated seats. I was very disappointed to learn that I could have ordered rear heated seats, but due to the glitch on the BMW website, I was not given the opportunity. The punch line is that it would actually have been $150 cheaper to have heated seats all around instead of just in the front.

I made a complaint to BMW USA but they told me that they just noted it internally and were not going to do anything about it.

Bottom line is that I would like to add it. My dealer says it cannot be retrofitted. But it looks like Trevster did it. Maybe the rear seats are already pre-wired, and all I need is a switch and proper coding. Does anyone if it can be done? BMW USA is no help in answering this question. They told me to ask my dealer.

From what I am reading- seats are not prewired.

That's really too bad. BMW needs to change its configurator. I wonder how many other people lost out on rear heated seats.

Which demonstrates the value of this forum and others. BMW should make it easier, but there is no substitute for these active forums and I checked in here and one other forum before ordering. It cost me more money, but I got what I would have wanted and not seen relying on the dealer or the web site.

I have rear heated seats, I just got my car off the lot too, not personally configured. I do have heated steering wheel as well.

When a friend of mine got in the car, she was so surprised I had rear heated seats. She also owns a G30 and didn't think that it was available.

That's not true. You actually can get the 4 zone climate control in the US, but it's not listed as an option anywhere. Several posters on another forum were able to order it for $400 or $600 extra can't remember the exact amount. It's not listed on the ordering guideline, but BMW will gladly do it.

Yep I can attest to this. In our F10 LCI, we specifically made sure to order the car with 4-Zone Climate Control and the CA made sure it was added onto our build.

I 100% recommend everyone to get it because it makes the rear feel a lot more premium, plus the extra vents and controls are nice!
