Hopefully you reached that speed at the track, right?

Just curious: Are you racing on a track? Because 130 is plenty fast enough for regular driving. I do believe speed can be a safety plus; sometimes you need to escape from a situation quickly (not talking about running from the police). But 130 is 2x the speed limit in most places and IMHO the thing you might need is acceleration rather than top speed limit.

I assume you all are tracking your cars. If you are, and the cars are locking at 130ish, you should take them into the dealership. Sounds like a software issue.

Seem to remember reading that you can program a maximum speed either somewhere into the iDrive menu or more likely on the steering-wheel-based cruise control buttons. A naive solution maybe but worth investigating if you did not do so already. Did your wife configure your car for you? Hope it works out! R

" The driver has the option of setting a speed at which a warning is issued when the system is activated and the preset speed is exceeded. 22.1. Operation The speed limit warning can be switched on and off in the iDrive menu as well as the speed setting at which the warning should be issued by making the following selection via the controller: • "My Vehicle" • "Vehicle settings" • "Speed warning" • "Warning at:" • Turn controller until the desired speed is displayed • Press controller • Speed limit warning is saved "

Thinking about this there is some ambiguity in BMW's description. It says "software limited" which I had always thought means that it could go faster but BMW has put a speed governor on it in the software. But it could mean that whatever you do, at whatever risk, the car won't be able to go faster than 130 but it could be unable to go near that speed.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can answer. Personally, I don't track my car so I never go near the upper limit so I have no personal experience. |

Yes I think I've read about this 130 limit.
You don't say whether you have a se or mapped as others have said possibly only the msport have the higher limit of 155mph. Different from the eu where the limit is 155mph . Same for m5 as well unless you have the competition pack when it's lifted. As others have said not an issue in the real world unless you are racing it off road. |

The silence is sorta deafening and even as someone whos gotten their cars to 110 in open stretches of freeway in LA Im gathering some folks are doing this in public n not any track. To be honest though in LA whole groups are going 100 at times. But 130 is ridiculous.

Check the tire settings. It may limits your max speed.
You guys better get it done on a track, not on the streets or freeways.

whats bs here is everyone acting like they have never gone over 100 mph, yes i agree its dangerous, but i would never go that fast with cars around me, and most of you have probably never driven in Florida on turnpike or 595 express lane. i did not ask how fast i should drive i only asked about the limiter , for those that answered thank you

It is illegal to go at those speeds in public roads whether there is traffic or not around you.
If you don't like posted speed limits, write to your state legislators. In the meantime, take it to the track!
