Tinting your car windows has many disadvantages, including decreased visibility, increased heat inside the vehicle, and potential legal issues, especially if the tint is too dark. Some tints can also cause the windows to become discolored or brittle over time, reducing their overall lifespan.

Ummm.... Tinting keeps the heat OUT, not in. I've had tinted windows, including the windshield, for decades and suffer no decreased visibility, even with my 60-something eyes.

Couldn’t see a damn thing out of the X7 when we got it. Had it all removed and re installed with 25% and it’s perfect. Actually had to do a lighter tint on the backs to net a result of about 25%.

It was too dark before because someone put 15 or 20 percent on top of factory glass already darkened. The result was 1%!!!!

I think I did 50% on the windshield & front windows and 75% on the others. It made a HUGE difference on the heat inside the car! I also did an 8" limo-tint strip across the top of the windshield. I can't believe BMW doesn't have a "tinted" windshield.

20% carbon tints all around and 35% windshield. I am probably removing the windshield tint because I don’t love the look it gives the car although many of my friends disagree.

Do you guys think the color of the interior makes a difference in tint preference?

I have 25% CTX ceramic tint on my 540 with beige interior. I’m wondering if I should go lighter for a car with black interior.

It does make a difference for sure, also depends if windshield will be tinted.

Ended up staying with 25%. It does sometimes appear darker with black interior. I’m very happy with it.

Perfect, I went with 15% as I have ivory interior. That combo looks amazing.

I did 20% ceramic. Everything except the windshield. Like that it’s not too dark.

I cancelled my tint appointment that I had for last Friday to do 25%. Read that a few people had issues with the car thinking it was night all the time. Although rare, I figured I would be the one in a 100. I guess we all have priorities with these cars and for some reason, tint isn't one of mine. It just doesn't scream I need to tint, to me anyway. I also won't have to scramble to find a station to give me an annual inspection sticker.

Hey, you gotta do you! I haven’t had that problem in the X7 or either 5, but I have read those comments.

If you ever change your mind, I found out a dermatologist can get you an exception to tint regulations, at least down here.

I finally got Air 80 back on the X7 windshield after having it replaced. Insurance ended up agreeing to reimburse the film as well. I also ended up adding 50% to the sunroof glass on that car. It’s just too big with too much glass to not mitigate the heat. It’s only been a couple days, but I can tell it’s not as difficult for the car to get and stay cool after the install.

70% is the windshield limit in TN. I may go for it, but it will have to be a different brand than the rest of the car (Llumar Pinnacle). My shop is the only Llumar dealer in town, per the Llumar site, and they don’t do 70%. It’s either Air80 or 50. I just think something to help out in the summer when it sits in the parking lot at the golf course all day would be nice.

I have XPEL Prime XR plus 70 on my 840i windshield. The heat rejection is incredible. On a hot Florida afternoon, I can hold my hand on the leather dash and the temperature is surprisingly acceptable. Without tint, it would be a different story. That said, at night on dark or dim roads, it can require a bit more concentration to see details. Next car I may ask the shop to use Prime XR Blue 80.

No issues at all with the dash dimming when it shouldn't.

I want to do 70 for the added look. I read mixed comments on visibility at night. Everywhere I go is pretty well lit but I could see it adding difficulty at night in a heavy rain. But I also wonder if it would help against bright headlights in oncoming traffic. Especially being down lower than all these SUVs.

Just had mine done Formula1 Pinnacle ceramic on all windows except windshield. Ohio reg is 50% on front driver and passenger window, any tint on remaining non windshield.I went 50% front, 35% rears.
In daytime, ALL tinting looks consistent with black interior. Keep in mind, at night, you need to be able to see easily out the window through that dark tint.
